I am currently in the process of converting a Tapper boardset over to a Discs of Tron boardset.

I downloaded some ROMs for DOT, and the labeling of the ROMs that go on the video board is a bit strange.

The downloaded ROM images are labelled a through h, with suffixes that read 'cp3' through 'cp9' and then one that is 'cp0'. The board has sockets for ROMs in locations A1 through A8. There are also small capacitors next to each ROM socket numbered 'cp3' through 'cp10'. My guess was whoever first dumped these ROMs to MAME just used the capacitor labels as ROM labels, and left off the '1' from cp10. This would put the contents of the cp0 file in the ROM socket next to the cp10 cap.

..but that's just a guess. The schematics use a different numbering scheme than any of these others above, so no dice there. Can anyone confirm the proper locations of these ROMs?

Thanks!

Ok now I have a quick question. I plan on building a udot this spring, and spotting this thread makes me under does any mcr2 board work to change to a dot? Or just tapper?

Thanks cdjump--I really appreciate the information.

h8breed01--You will need the proper MCRIII set, which has a CPU board and a video board that are different from the MCRII series. Here is some information from MAME about what boards are compatible with DOT:

CPU Video Sound
Tapper 91490 91464 90913
Timber
Discs of Tron 91490 91464 91657 91660
NFL Football 91490 91464 91657 91660 91695
Demolition Derby 91490 91464 90913

The Tapper boardset I purchased happened to have a 91657 sound board on it, so everything was a match for DOT. NFL Football is pretty much a ROM swap, but those are pretty rare.
