Discs of Tron... Need some pictures :) and help..

Hey, no problem. I just picked this up recently so it's still in my garage waiting for new side art and a good cleaning. Parts and info on these are so hard to find so I'll do what I can to get it out there.

That piece you need to make is kind of weird. I took a pic to illustrate. The top is longer than the bottom because the front is slanted. But the front is a consistent 1/4" from the edge of the cabinet (where the T-molding is).

The front two corners are rounded over. At the top it is 2-11/32" wide and at the bottom, it is 1-7/16" from the front of the cabinet (so add another 3/4" to that).

The slot is also weird. The slot starts 1-1/2" from the back of the piece and it is 3/16" wide at the top and 1/8" wide at the bottom. The side of the slot closest to the cab is perfectly vertical, and the front side is slanted. It is also 5/16" deep.

Yeah no $h!t thats a odd size... wow.. I got those numbers I can work with that. give me something to work on in my woodshop. I can start off with a square piece and sand it to fit or to looks...

But yeah see what I have to work with... I have no problem doing this.. I got my Tron in a simular shape. Had nothing inside. I was able to scrap it together... made my own wiring harness (of course alot of wire, connectors, schematic and the most important one of them all BEER! ) Its working to this day.. I gotta sand and prep the cabinet for new side art I got from my sweety for christmas two years ago... so this should be fun as well.

Lucky the DoT has great side art on it.. thus I wouldn't have spent any time working on it.

The next thing I see I need to figure out is that piece that holds the main plexi in place for the screen. I saw the pictures. I think I can get that from any type of game... (shape to fit is my moto) as long as it looks good.

Here is the bezel retaining bracket that holds the glass in above the control panel.

What parts of the control panel, in particular, do you need to see in more detail? I already posted a pic of it.

Could you get a measurements of this part... I can have a local metal shop fabricate this.

Thanks!! (again) I owe you some Beer and a handshake man..

No problem.

Here are the measurements:
1/16" thick
1-1/2" on the bottom
1/2" on the front
1/2" at the top

The measurements were taken on the inside of the piece. The 1/2" measurements are from the center of the bend. The angle of that bend is 125°

Today I scored a two way mirror!!!
I wonder if anyone has the artwork behind the two way mirror scanned. If so point me in the location :)

Where'd you get the mirror? From a glass shop or another machine?

Buddy of mine yanked it from a asteroids deluxe... that the cabinet was falling apart (in other words not worth saving..) I gotta size it and cut it May be needing the measurements on the mirror...

I did start working on that weird wood piece that the control panel rests on. Cut out a prototype first on my saws...not gonna fire up the router at this hour.. the neighbors would hate me...

Well as of last night I purchased a Boardset off ebay for this monster. One step closer to putting it all together!

This week was productive! Here is the front of the machine now :)

Now I started working on the electrical... Re-enforced the lower cabinet due to some mold I found... all cleaned up and looking good. Waiting for boards now...

I still need to get a measurement on the monitor brackets. If I can get that I can get them made or if someone knows where I can get some at that would be awesome...

Thanks to you this piece is being made as I write this... :) I will need the measurements of the monitor bracket. Looks like a simple "L" style bracket unless I'm not seeing something...

Woohoo ... I got a board set in today... I ordered a Root Beer Tapper board set... gonna re-program eproms for DoT. should be running this week if all else fails. I still gotta get a measurement on the two way mirror/glass...

I've read up on Panning and non panning sound boards. I saw the list on what is what. But I didn't see my board number on there... I got a ' A082-90913-F000' Is this workable... if not who knows how to make it 'Do-able' in that good kinda way..

Scary enough I found a full blown manual / schematic for DoT... It has the size of the glass... so no need to take out the glass to measure it ok bud. For those that need it the size is as follows :

Mirropane - 23-1/32" x 19-11/16"x 1/4.

Just gotta locate a backdrop translite for the back of it. Isn't Rick from thisoldgame.com making or has the artwork?

I'm not sure that he is. The DOT/EDOT market is pretty small and I would think that the market for the translights would be smaller than for the light housings and CPOs. Both are on his list to get done, but further down the list. I would imagine that if translights were to get done, it won't be for a while. But what the hell do I know?

Here is hoping ;) hehe.. If I can get a good shot of it and the size I can get it duplicated by a local company.

Well tonight I saw the game come to life! Of course I got some monitor work to do... Monitor keeps scrolling. Won't lock frequency right. But yes the game lives! I got some cpu board work to do. Got lines though the characters. Sounds like bad ram or a bad ribbon cable. I gotta get the monitor brackets and I think everything will be golden other than looking for a marquee, front curved plastics and the artwork in the back...
As the A-Team would say 'I love it when a plan comes together'

Thanks a bunch to everyone in this forum. You guys are life savers and game savers. If you need help with any pinball games, boards etc or are looking for certain parts let me know!

Cool! Glad to hear you're making progress. I've been trying to scan my translite, but I'm not having much success.

I have to do it in 6 scans and I can't get it stitched together properly. Even when I can match them up, the colors are off on the different scans. My scanner is pretty decent so that shouldn't be the issue. Does anyone have any techniques that might help?

I think there is a decent scan floating out there somewhere, but I don't know if anyone is planning on printing it.

Here the thread about the repro light cover:

I emailed Rich at ThisOldGame to expess interest in the light cover.
