someone mentioned Discs of Tron the other day and I started thinking about it. What a great game. What if there was multiplayer? Wouldn't be a bad game to put into development. Might be a killer aplication for a VR system? I doubt ypu could do a fuul size VG release, Might make a great Home system release though, playing online. Some Old School Platform Combat might be the ticket for a winner????

I like the way you are thinking. Kind of a dual EDOT thing, where you could play as an individual against "the MPC" or play head to head with a second player.

The original Midway hardware couldn't support that, but today's systems, oh hell yeah!

Go for it!

I wouldn't want a VR game. I'd want the original controls with the same levels but facing a human player.

If it were legit just like the game, in VR that would be badass.. I enjoy VR a lot. They have a VR rampage game that is multiplayer.. 1 person plays the giant Kaiju while the others try to stop the Kaiju from destroying the city. It's actually pretty rad.. VR doesn't get enough attention.. I spend to much time inside..

Yeah, VR probably just needs a few Killer Aps before it really blows up. I think it might be really on the verge of really blowing up. Of course the original game concept in multiplayer would be ideal. not sure how you would include the dial aiming, not exactly part of Home console controls.
????
VR might be the only way to bring it o market.

VR may need to be rethought though. VR just as a peripheral stationary headseat is probably the future along with innovative flexible controlers is probably the future of VR. You aint going to be walking around wearing a full headset. :50: Most likely just lookinging around while sitting down.

To do a killer Ap on a VR system would probably take a comeplete Home Video Sytem redesign. Although I am not familiar with the VR peripherals and systems.

At this point a VR Tron Game is just Conjecture in Development.
🤔
Probably a monumental system & game that will never come to fruition.
Fun speculating though
😁

Actually looks like there has been alot of Tron games released.

Heck, I just want a 2 player Discs of Tron Platform combat game.
:50:

I've thought of this project for some time (head-to-head Discs of Tron). Even made up a "Discs of Sark" marquee for the other cabinet.

I think the existing MCR hardware could support this, with a master/slave setup; one PCB to take all the inputs and maintain the state, the other PCB would have the state communicated to it and just display video, play audio, flash lights for its cabinet when told.

MCR hardware can handle the multiple inputs; demolition derby supports 4 spinners plus essentially 2 fourway joysticks (4 two-way joysticks). It would just be a matter of being creative with sending output signals/state to the other PCB.

Would be a fun project to "derez" the source code to figure out how to do it, but alas, too many projects on my plate and not enough time. Maybe in retirement :)

I don't know if there are sprites for SARK as the larger "near" player in the code. Though I guess one could just change the TRON palette from blue to red for the SARK player and vice versa for TRON. Also, you'd have to find a way to select which of either the energy pellet or chaser SARK would use.

The other PCB would have the sprites color reversed.

I was thinking they'd both just have discs like the main player, since having those other options seems like cheating. However, that might get boring. The game can support two spinning chasers at a time, so maybe randomly spawn a spinner vs each player if combat is going long. Haven't really thought too much of game play options, but plenty of ideas possible. Like, spawn a target on the wall; whichever player shoots it first spawns a spinner against the other player.

I feel like I'm watching a discussion on quantum entanglement 😁

This will be damn cool if you get it to work! Kind of reminds me of the Sinistar hacks and Major Havoc - The Promised End, I love when people make new versions of classics that work on real hardware!

I was thinking of keeping gameplay the same... TRON gets deflects, SARK gets the special weapons, both can have 3 total discs/projectiles in play at any time. But unlocking power ups could be interesting.

But if implementing any changes, it would be awesome to be able to derez a ring with the player on it. Or at the least, to instantly derez it rather than with a delay.
