I have a feeling what I'm about to post/ask could make a lot of people on this site weak in the knees. I could be wrong but you may want to sit down if you are a discs of tron fan, lol. Don't get excited as they're not for sale, sorry. I didn't know of Tron before the movie as I'm only 26. It's apparently a big deal, haha. So If I said I know of where there are 5 non-working Discs of Tron machines all sitting beside each other, you fellow arcade lovers would say?

My questions are:

How rare is this game?
Generally what are they worth working and non-working?

Is it considered a really fun game or just average? The game-play on YouTube looks fun, the game-play looks like it is years ahead of its time for arcade machines at that time...am i right?

I'm hoping one or two of them aren't big fixer-uppers and the parts needed are sitting working in the other machines. Harvesting at it's finest, lol.

They aren't rare at all. There is this guy that knows where 5 of them are. I just happen to have a Gauntlet Legends Board set. Maybe we could work a deal.

Honestly, depending on condition and whether they are the Environmental (huge cabinet) or just the standup, they can range anywhere from 800-3000 bucks depending on completeness and condition. Maybe less if there is water damage.

Welcome.

I see them start for around 800 in mediocre working condition around here, nice ones are around 900-1200, I am in the Seattle area and prices are in USD since I see you're Canadian. You're very lucky!

(Seattle area has a reputation for our prices being a bit higher than national average I have heard cus there are so many collectors around here and it's somewhat affluent. I always get jealous of SoCal prices)

LOL you make good points. Having 5 of them should of been my clue. I just didn't think it was so common where it took me 24 years or so to even hear of Tron. Thought these 5 happened to be a rarity. Unfortunately the machines aren't mine so I can't do anything with them, sadly, I just have to drool over what could be every time I see them. My buddy wanted to buy one of the marquees and was told by the brother of the owner of the tron machines to put it back before he got killed by the owner...aka my other uncle hahaha. The game sure does look fun. PM me about your GL boardset. :)

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say he was joking with you, and then offering up a Gauntlet Boardset to coax you out of one. Poking fun at ya is all :)

don't let them crush the game even if its missing parts. Someone would probably buy just the wood. Even if it was 50% complete, it would still have value. The key piece to the game is control panel and its spinner. Its the hardest piece to get(if its not unique to the game, its probably on something else just as rare).

Discs of tron is much harder to find than tron. I would say about 4x harder to find. So having 5 is extremly rare. The stand in ones are worth 2x-4x the UR ones.

As for the game, its different. You should play it and see if you like it. I feel its much better than tron, but I think thats the minority opinion. I would sell my tron long before I would sell my DOT.

As for worth, condition is everything. There are some unique parts on it. I can't imagine the marquee could be reproed so it has value. You have a translight thats pretty fragile. Luckily most parts(including translight) are being reproed.

I would guess not working complete UR in nice shape $500-$750+. Fully working, tht game would be worth $1k-$1250+.

If its the stand in (EDOT), nice shape complete not working, $1250-$1750. Fully working $2500-$3500+.

HOLY CRAP!! All five are stand-in machines. Cha-ching!! I'll have to look closer at them which is hard because they're cramped together in a warehouse. Other than not working my instincts say they're all in-tact and in good to very good condition from what I remember. Probably because they broke and were too hard to fix at the time is my guess because I have never seen one in our arcade or the other one I used to go to. both were owned by my uncles that own these machines so I'm guessing as well that these machines have just been sitting in the warehouse since the mid to late 1990's as I had never seen hem until I went searching in the warehouse a few years ago. Maybe I'll snap some pics for you guys to drool over lol.

Well, considering where you are located, I would say, I've been to that warehouse, and when I was there, there were 7 of them, so they must have sold 2 over the years. If we are talking about the same place, and I have to think we are, why would you say they aren't for sale? That op was high priced, but he definitely would sell anything.

Probably wrong of me to say they aren't for sale. Most of the stuff is. I just don't want to say they are and then not as it's not my stuff. What brought you from Illinois to here? I would say it's the same warehouse as it's by far the largest collection of arcade machines in Atlantic Canada. How long ago were you here? Can't believe I found someone who's been in it before, lol.

That warehouse brought me there. I have traveled all over for op raids and that definitely was the longest op raid road trip I ever took. I was there in 2001 and I agree, the largest warehouse I ever saw, 3 floors each a football field size (and now that I think of it, he took me to another building all together with another big stash). Too bad 90%+ of them were conversions by then (and in poor condition). If all those games were in their original state, his inventory would be worth many times more. Considering he said he had about 3000 games out on route, along with his inventory, that would be a considerable sum of money.

But that one back room with all the EDOT's, I wish I had my camera with me! Well, actually, I didn't own a digital camera back then.

He was also one of the toughest ops I ever dealt with. When we talked prices, he had a PC open with ebay up on screen and the video game and pinball game price guides on his desk and wanted the top price (mint condition) price for every game and was very firm on his prices. No dealing at all, even if multiple games were involved. Needless to say, I left with an empty van, save a small box of parts.

So did you talk any prices with him on anything? Now that it's over 10 years later from when I was there and video game prices have generally tanked even more (except for the ultra rare stuff), I wonder if he's softened up on his pricing at all.

Wow Joe!! I love your dedication. It's too bad things didn't work-out for you on your visit here, and that would be the warehouse haha. I haven't talked to them about anything lately. I try (key word try) to not bother them too much. The industry has changed since 2001 as you know and so have prices. I wouldn't be able to speak on their behalf. But I do have a feeling that the person you dealt with at the time is the uncle who is now retired...however would be the one who owns those discs of tron games haha. I'm going to ask if I can take pictures of the warehouse to share with everyone. All I ask is you don't give out the name of the establishment or the location in NS where it is as it is not my business. :)
Anything you want pictures of besides the discs of tron games that you remember from the warehouse? And son of a gun I keep forgetting about that separate location warehouse of games. I've never even been in it and I'm family. -> number 1 thing on my to do list as of today haha. Oh man I hope there's stuff in there that I want.

And Joe in a dream/perfect world, I'll end-up in the Alberta oil patch in the next few weeks and work for several months if not years. Be financially stable for once in my life and be able to buy machines and repair them too. One of my dreams is to see a Cubs game at Wrigley so who knows maybe within a few years I'll be driving to Illinois with a truck full of games for you haha.

I wouldn't worry about the separate location. While it also was a pretty big building, it was one floor and virtually 100% of the games there were converted. I think that was more of their active area for rotating games in and out. It seemed to have more games from the current era of the time. There was absolutely nothing at the second area of interest to me. Then again, that doesn't mean it's not of interest to someone else.

Don't suppose you ever figured out if he was willing to part with any of the stuff..I don't need a complete game, just looking for some parts (i.e. wiring and things of that nature) to help my project along. I can get a reproduction cab and I have an upright PCB and controll pannel..just need some of those other "hard to find" parts...

Good job on getting everyone all worked up. I haven't seen this many foaming mouths and wet panties since that Old Yeller porn parody.

You probably shouldn't have posted anything here until you secured those for yourself.

You should check out the Sundance epic thread here, lots of backstabbing and underhanded things happened there.
