Discs of tron arcade shop power supply installation question

Hello,

I need help with a quick question.

My mcr power brick died on the low voltage side.

Blows both fuses on the far left.

So me figures screw it. Popped the arcade shop silver switcher and there adapter board in the game.

All looks good.

The high voltage side of the mcr brick is working fine. Lights monitor etc working well.

I have NOT powered up the new switcher combo yet due to some confusion.

HERES MY QUESTION :

Why do i need the orange grey harness from the brick to the adapter board?

+12v should be available at the switcher?

In the cabinet wiring schematic this harness is part of +12 circuit.

If i knew i needed anything on the low side from the brick i would have had the whole damn

thing repaired as i had NO acid damage on my old board.

THANKS FOR LISTENING lol.

The original power supply had two circuits -- one +12v regulated for logic, one +12v unregulated for audio and lamps. They came from separate transformer taps and had separate grounds which might help to isolate against noise. Also the lamps/audio suck down quite a bit of current and the design moves them off of the regulated supply.

Your kit follows the same design. Instead of pulling +12v for lamps/audio from the switching power supply, it pulls AC from the transformer, has those 4 diodes as a rectifier, has a worthlessly small capacitor to generate an extra +12v supply. I don't like the design at all but maybe there was some motivation for doing it that way.

Thanks for shedding some light on this problem.

At first glance i thought the adapter was just a pass through for the switcher.

After much research and study of the schematics for a long while it all came together.

Luckily my pcb survived the mcr failure and is up and running well.

THANKS KLOV!
