My Discs of Tron upright only plays in 2 player mode.

Starting with the credit count at zero, add one credit. Tapping Player 1 or Player 2 button will not start the game.

Add another credit and pressing EITHER Player 1 or Player 2 will start the game in 2 player mode.

There are no wires detached, missing or frayed in the control panel. Going into test mode and checking inputs indicates no problems - "Player 1" is displayed when pressing Player 1 and "Player 2" is displayed while pressing Player 2 button.

I checked the DIP switches and there doesn't seem to be any settings for weird coinage. I also looked in the test menus for coinage related settings and everything looks fine for 1 Player play.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Was this working properly and then suddenly started doing this? Or has it been that way since you have had it? If it's been that way all along then I'd check to be sure the start buttons are wired properly first. Not just that they are connected. But connected to the right place. Seems very simple but could be that easy.

One of mine did that when I got it.. cannot remember exactly what it was but think it had something to do with an Enviro pcb in the stack. Check the first one and see if it is a regular SSIO board or one 'with panning'.

The guy I got it from said that it had worked normally, but then it started doing this. But he could have been talking out of his ass, he didn't know anything about arcade games.

I haven't trace the wires back to the PCB yet, but like I said, pressing player 1 in test displays "Player 1" and pressing player 2 shows "Player 2".

Thanks for the insight. I don't know how to determine if the sound board is a normal one or one "with panning". What should I look for? Here are some pics if that helps

EDIT: The pics got resized, but the chips do say UPRT on them

Well that's what I get for reading to fast. I totally missed what you said about them showing as working correct in test mode.

The board will say its an ssio sound board and nothing else for regular DOT, but it wil say 'with panning' on it if its an enviro one.. actually things are starting to come back a bit from when I had that issue.. when you are in test mode, what is the icon you move up and down the list? I think uDOT and eDOT showed a different icon. It might just be the roms are eDOT.

I really should take more notes of my fixes......

The board just says Super Sound IO, no "with panning". The icon looks like a disc, see the picture.

Also attached are pics in test mode when I press player 1, player 2, and both respectively

check the settings in the test mode under the light portion.. if there is another test for a light sequencer or something like that it is in EDOT mode.. I thnk for uDOT and eDOT the roms are the same, but there is a jumper on the pcb that puts it in one mode or the other.. I'll try and find time to lok that up but if you can read schematics I seem to recall it was fairly obviously noted.

Yes, there are tests for the light sequencers. I'll check the schematic for the jumper.

I am not certain I found the jumper you are referring to, but I checked the MCR FAQ and verified that my jumper settings matched my EPROMs.

Per the faq:
"For 2532 EPROMs: JW#1 open (cut), JW#2 present (shunt)"

I have the 2532 EPROMs and the the jumpers are set accordingly.

Tester007, I saw another thread from a couple years ago where you mentioned this jumper:

If the location comes back to you, please let me know.

try changing switch 7 on B3 dipswitch.

I already tried this. It was set to OFF originally which the DIP sheet says is "Cocktail / Table" which I'm assuming is Environmental. I switched it to on and it had no effect.

I'll check out those schematics a little later as I have to run out just now. Thanks again for your help.

Looks like pins 8 & 9 on J5 are jumpered on the EDOT. Mine is not jumpered on the harness or on the board. I'll jumper it and see what happens.

I jumpered the pins and 1 Player mode works now. However, I have lost 2 Player mode as expected since it is in Environmental mode (Player 1 or Player 2 button starts game play in 1 Player mode). I'm not too terribly concerned about that, but I still feel like I have a defective board.

I also noticed that there is a pause when the game starts, presumably because the game is trying to speak. Though, I have every intention of installing a squawk & talk board to make it talk.

Hmmm... dam I wish I could remember.. I sold the one I had that issue on and kept the other so I can't even look inside to try and jog my memory... If you have the light sequencer up in the test tho in uDOT mode, something is screwy..

the panning ssio board should be coded A080-91657-A000. Your board looks like it reads A082-90913-F000 which would be of the non-panning variety. i've been looking for a panning board for my spy hunter cp. they seem to be hard to come by.
