Discovered original art on Star Trek Captain's Chair
I decided to work a bit on my Star Trek Captain's Chair tonight. Figured I might as well get some pieces taken off, cleaned up, and the cabinet vacuumed out around the monitor. For some reason, this was converted to a jamma setup; so a plain black bezel was added and the bottom bezel piece (where the start button is) was covered with a black overlay. I figured the art was lost and I'd need to find repros or nos (somehow).
I starting taking pieces off, cleaning a bit. Vacuumed out the mouse nest behind the monitor. Little by little it was cleaning up well. I took the entire monitor bezel off and start to disassemble some pieces. After taking off the upper and lower brackets, I could see two bezels. To my surprise, the original bezel was underneath the black bezel! I was super happy, as this meant I didn't need to find another one. Plus, since it was covered, the colors are really nice and overall it's very clean.
I figured the bottom was lost, but thought I'd take a shot at peeling back the overlay. Went slow, and after getting an inch of it up; I could see the space background. All I could think of was "this can't be happening". I went slow, peeled back the rest; and there you have it, it's all original, and in amazing shape. I wiped it down a bit, and figured this would be a good spot to stop for the night; but I'd want to put it all back together so nothing got damaged or lost.
I cleaned it up a little for now, assembled it back, and placed it back on the machine. It looks so good. I can't believe this was covered up, and also I was able to save it. It's a good start to the restore!
