Sorry for starting another thread, but could not find one similiar to this when i searched, Quick question, I'm about to discharge monitor for the first time and have heard some people pull off the suction cup plug and discharge the monitor and some just stick the screw driver in between the leads and after discharging removes the suction cup plug, Are either of these ways ok? the machine has been off for a few days. Thanks for any help.

You should do both. If you pull the cup before discharging and there is a charge you are likely to get bit. The second discharge is just in case a residual charge built back up.

Just to reiterate....
Do NOT just reach up there and try to pull the anode cup off prior to discharging. The whole purpose is to remove the charge BEFORE handling it. Otherwise that charge will jump from the tube to YOU.

Ground your discharge tool/screwdriver.
THEN slip the tool/screwdriver under the rubber anode cup.
Use the same tool to pop the clips out of the tube hole in order to remove the anode lead.
Then discharge the TUBE HOLE again.

Keep one hand on the insulated handle of the tool/screwdriver.
Keep the other one in your pocket. :)

When I did my first, I made a discharge tool. However the monitor sat for 3 weeks before I tried to discharge. When I used the tool, there was no charge on it left.

Point is, use a tool regardless. Or as some say, irregardless!
