How hard is it/is it possible to disable games on a typical 60 in 1?

I know it seems silly, but I am currently looking for options to replace the missing boardset in my Galaga restore, and I started thinking that it might be possible to get a decent price on a 60 in 1 JAMMA board, a JAMMA to Galaga cab adapter and disable all the games but Galaga (having it boot directly to Galaga). I have found a pretty great deal on a 60 in 1 for under $80 shipped.

I don't plan to alter the original control panel to enable one to play games that require up and down movement, so that's out of the question.

I just know Galaga boardsets have a long history of problems, and can be pretty finicky. If possible, this might cut down on the overall cost and provide a bit more stability over time.

I would appreciate your input on this!

Go into the TEST menu. Then go through the game list and turn OFF all the other games and leave Galaga on. That's it! With Galaga in particular, this will be better than mame since you will have no nag screen to clear.

What he said. But you might want to try a 60 in 1 first. I have one and found a lot of the games just are not the same. They "feel" very different from the originals. Also the sound emulation on most of the games is very dissapointing. Trying to emulate obsolete sound circuitry is very difficult and the 60 in 1's didn't do a very good job.

I don't think Galaga is too bad. The explosion sound might not be perfect (it's not in MAME). Phoenix, Millipede, Gyruss though...all horrible on the 60-in-1's.

From what I've experienced, the emulation for Galaga is traditionally pretty solid, aside from some sound issues.

Thank you, all, for the advice. I think this will be a viable alternative to picking up the original boardset.

It's not completely authentic, but I won't be altering any of the original components. If I come across a solid boardset, I can always remove the 60 in 1 and JAMMA adapter.

Just got my first 60n1 and I hoped that the sounds would not bother me too much. I hoped for too much! :-/ I didn't notice much wrong with the explosion but the fire sound is annoyingly wrong!

Time Pilot's sound is also not right.

I will keep the 60n1 as the nieces & nephews like to play other games. But when I am playing, I will probably plug in the original PCBs instead.
