Guys,

I'm trying to figure out why I have a G-07 that has a pretty dim picture. I thought it was the tube (since this was in a cocktail). But I swapped tubes and same thing. then I swapped chassis and it got bright. So then I checked all the pots on the neck board and replaced the 3 transistors on the neck board - still dim.

So what component is weak, causing this dim picture?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

John

Screen control doesn't do it - makes the whole thing brighter, but the contrast is wrong then - everything is bright with lines through it and not usable this way.

Black level.....I don't remember seeing a black level adjustment on a G-07. Is that just another name for the Screen control?

Bad flyback? Really....can someone confirm this? If so, great...I've got a bunch of those.

Thanks guys,
John

Yes scratch the black level adjustment - sorry working on two dif monitors ;)

But I'll stay with a bad flyback.

But I'll stay with a bad flyback.

Is that your final answer? <grin>

A possibility, but G07 flybacks tend to fail in a big cloud of smoke. In fact, most of the G07's I see have already gotten new flybacks at some point in their lives. I am still leaning towards the B+ being too low. It should be 120v.

Are certain colors brighter than others? For example, is the red brightest, blue a bit darker, and green darkest?

If so, replace R517. Then retest....

I'd start at the blanking circuit...X303/X304 and D301. ...and then (maybe) D402/D504 and D508. Good luck, these can be tough to track down.
