Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster (More of a pinball guy). Sooo, anyway... I was looking for a cab to build a 60 in 1 for my mancave. I picked up a shorter cab Gremlin "Astro Fighter" for $40 with no sound, otherwise works and is in pretty good shape. I cleaned it up and found the volume control pot unplugged. Plugged her in and yuck, loud hum, no sound fx. Then I noticed the "Deco" in the upper right corner of the now adjusted and working good monitor?? So I guess Deco boards are in a Sega/Gremlin cab?? Now the dilemma, do I try and fix the sound (May have better luck hitting powerball) and replace the cp overlay? Or, do I through an LCD in (Monitor could use a cap job), swap out the cp, and go with my 60 and 1?? Thoughts...

wow, that's a sweet cab. I wouldn't 60 in 1 that one.

I would look for something more generic. And definitely don't use an lcd. well, if you aren't a vid guy maybe it won't matter to you.

nice pick up, welcome bud. keep that shit original :)

I know, thats my issue.... Its in too good condition to gut.... So how do I fix the sound??? That would seal the deal :)

Thanks!

That is the nicest Astro Fighter I've ever seen. Great score, congrats!

I'd keep that original. But I see were your problem is.. it's a boring game. :v( I would at least find a collector who want's one before I considered trashing it. Go generic, like a Ms. Pac-man or DK. ;)

one more thing, Welcome & stay away from the LCD screeens! :)

That is a REALLY nice Astro Fighter.

I can really see your dilemma. I would need to agree with the others and OT convert that one.

Good luck and sorry I cant help with the sound issue :(

Chris

If it were me, I would convert it, and I wouldn't feel the least bit bad about it.

Just being old doesn't make it a classic. I never even heard of Astro Fighter before.

Make it what you want it to be and enjoy it.

LOL... You just threw a wrench in the works, lol... I was all about restoring it, now.... Sigh... As of now, I will save it I guess, until i can't find another cab and give in...

I think I happen to have a sound board to Astro Fighter sitting on my desk at home...definitely some kinda small pcb for it anyway.

It's totally up to you - you'll hear a lot of "OH NOES KEEPZ IT ORIGINAL" - But until someone throws you a solid offer on it, don't pay much attention. You'll get crucified on here regardless of what you do - Anything from not selling it cheap enough or converting it will have people crying.

If it were myself and the game sucked, I'd make it a 60-in-1 and save the hassle of finding more cabinets. You bought that thing to play the games you like, not have a dull vintage game. Leave the sideart on it - that's good enough! :)

As it is you could probably save the guts and have them for later if you decide to get rid of it.

That cabinet does look baller - I have never played that game either.
