Ok folks - dilemma here...

I want to get started on my first cab re-do. I have a bootleg Qbert that is installed in a Qix (from what I can tell) cab. Consider:

1) Cab wood is in pretty good shape (save for at least two layers of paint over original art)
2) Taito wiring is hacked beyond repair
3) I have the original Taito power supply and audio amp
4) CP is from Qix but needs to be completely re worked (extra holes, etc.)
5) I have parts to fix the Coinco coin door
6) Qbert bezel and marquee are in pretty good shape
7) Game works in its present state...all I have done is rebuilt monitor chassis (G07) and installed switching PS.

So...options are (there may be others):

1) Restore it back to a Taito cab and find Qix electronics and completely restore it as a Qix
2) Build out "real" Qbert side panels and a CP from plywood and use the original Taito wood to "build" a Qbert cab that looks semi-original (electronics would be bootleg)
3) Rebuild the cab as is but maybe do a custom Qbert artwork on the side and keep it a bootleg Qbert

Thoughts?

Thanks as always -

-Scott

Qbert is the better game, but I'm going to go with door #1. There's something nice about taking them back to original status and you can always find a Qbert cab to put your parts in. The Qix cabs are getting more and more rare, especially since no one has repro'd the sideart yet.

Not necessarily true.... A Qix cab is like any other Taito cab from that era. You will find many shitty conversions where Taito cabs were used. It's all of a matter finding a *working* boardset and harness.

The sideart is also stenciled and they're available.....The Qix color combo is gray and black.
