DigDug WR attempt goin on...

I watched for about half an hour before he hit 1 mil. I don't think I would ever have the patience to just run around like that. Some skill there for sure.

I was watching for a bit also. I noticed he was trying to get as many points as possible by just tunneling around. Is there a board/level limit?

I watched him beat my high score with just about 4 well dropped rocks:)

Nope, just as much as you can dig, provided you keep at least 2 enemies on the screen so as to avoid them ending the stage early.

EDIT: there is indeed a kill screen, hence the need to dig as much dirt as possible to maximize points per screen, not sure if that's what you were referring to or not.

My best was 460K. Not an easy feat, let alone 2 mil.
Ken had to go to an appt. around 2.4 mill, so he put his guy in a 'safe spot' for like 3 hours... when he came back his heart just wasn't in to it. I think he bailed at about 2.7 mill or so. He had at least 8-10 guys left over.

Yes, very tedious... not to mention the music... Not my kinda game, but I'm just an old 'cade rat that gets into these WR trys.

I guess there is a 'kill screen' (2.5 mill or so) type thing happening where the enemy guys slow way down and really don't even chase his guy... yeah, he's just trying to point press a little, I guess...

He's also trying to stay on a given scoring pace or it's just not worth going on.

He's trying to recapture his WR title... the record is about 5.142 mill.

Where is this "safe spot"?? It would be nice to know so that you can take a break. Having no "pause" button on arcade games can be tough!

I'm not a digdug guy, so I don't know... even after witnessing it:p He did a few different break save spots while I was watching. You'll just have to watch next time and try to figure it out. And Ken is not likely to explain it to you:D I'm somewhat surprised he broadcasts these games, he used to be really guarded about other players seeing his gaming 'secrets'

that being said, I suck at dig dug, when did this "safe spot" thing become a thing?

Ken's biggest and only real rival on this game is current WR holder Donald Hayes, and all known high scoring tactics are in use by both of them now. No secrets left to protect.

Ken's record attempt this morning just ended at 1,611,670 on Round 83. He missed a turn, and consequently a rock drop just seconds later ended up missing all of the monsters. That lost him a bunch of points, and a board or two later he missed a vegetable and that was all she wrote.

Ken and Don are so near perfection on this game that there is almost no room left for error in a game that takes close to ten hours.

Ken has started another record attempt on Dig Dug. Stream is live here:

Round 256 is a kill screen so it is all about point maximization. The record is about 5.14 million. It will take close to 10 hours of play to reach that. He is currently at 532k after Round 30 and is ahead of the pace.

He's already light years past my personal best. This is impressive! And tedious with all the digging around for extra points.

dig dug

Man that makes want to go down stairs and play my dig dug. I stink at dig dug, but I like to play a game or three now and agin. man he good.

I miss my Dig Dug but I got bored with it. It took 30 min or more to play a game and I just couldn't get into it. I would love to have one again but I think it would just be more of hte same.

He started at about 3:00pm PT. He is currently at 2,633,010 after Round 130 and is still on a strong pace. If he makes it the estimated time for completion will be after midnight, sometime closer to 1:00am PT.

In a few minutes Ken will hit the slowdown boards at Round 136. If you've never seen it before, now's the time. It'll either be really interesting to you or the most boring thing you've ever seen. :)

Edit: 3,038,700 after Round 150. He's starting to come out of the slow boards. That's 48,700 ahead of pace, and he should be able to add to his scoring pace over the next 100 rounds. He's down to 8 extra men in storage, though, so he has to stay focused.

Edit: 3,244,070 after Round 160, with 8 extra lives in storage.

Edit: 3,649,900 after Round 180, with 7 extra lives in storage. 44,900 ahead of pace.

Edit: 3,860,960 after Round 190, with 6 extra lives in storage. 50,960 ahead of pace.

Edit: 4,064,860 after Round 200, with 5 extra lives in storage. 49,860 ahead of pace.

Edit: 4,260,780 after Round 210, with 3 extra lives in storage. 40,780 ahead of pace.

Edit: 4,458,580 after Round 220, with 2 extra lives in storage. 33,580 ahead of pace.

Edit: 4,655,010 after Round 230, with 0 extra lives in storage. 25,010 ahead of pace.

Final score: 4,731,690 on Round 235. Succumbed to fatigue at 12:30am. Total game time 9.5 hours.

Damn, sucks I missed this attempt, sounds like a hell of a good run. I'll have to catch the next one. Go Ken!
