Dig Dug's Pooka Are Filled With Delicious Cookies! (Video Game Ceramics)
I've posted in the past about some of the arcade related ceramics my girlfriend had painted (The Black Hole dog bowl, Ghosts 'n Goblins fruit bowl, BurgerTime spoon rest, Bosconian cookie jar) and for our anniversary she wanted me to paint something myself while she continued to work on her current piece, a crazy tribute to Metal Slug that won't be done for many more sittings. A cookie jar (yeah, another one) the ceramics place had was bulbous and reminded of an inflated Pooka so I decided to go with that.
I'm terrible at ceramic painting since it requires continuously even multiple coats to get dark colors and solid lines. The finish product is also always up in the air a bit since you can't tell coverage 100% until the piece is fired and by then what you have is what you have. However, incredibly, I'm pretty satisfied with how it came out. I got a little overzealous with the pencil while drawing and while it burns off in the kiln, excess areas will prevent the paint from adhering, which I have in a few spots.
The idea was to have a Pooka fully inflated and just bursting, the opening with the lid being the area that has been blown open by the air harpoon.
Originally I was going to put the point value on the inside at the bottom of the jar but there's no way I could get my hand in there so I decided to put it on the lid.
My yellow got a little drifty but I can't complain.
