Hello.

I'm trying to fix a Dig Dug board that has been attacked by corrosion and rust. I think I can save all the chips but a custom one:

This board has 3 x 40 pins ICs at the opposite side of the connector. One of them is a Z80A, and the two other are custom chips. One of them is the one I cannot save.

Do you know if I can swap this chip (at 1N/1P) with a regular Z80A? An the other custom chip, placed at 1J? The only Z80A this board has is placed at 1B/1C.

Thanks!

The 3 x 40 pin chips at the bottom edge of the board are all regular z80A's you can just swap in replacements.

Thanks for the help. I've just replaced the damaged chip with a Z80, and now the board fires up, but I have another problem:

The game resets once and again at the end of the boot sequence. Sometimes I see an error at screen, and the game stops: ROM 5. According to the Dig Dug manual, this error means a problem with EPROM at 6C. But my board is a B type, and EPROMs are placed on different positions...

Do you know wich rom of the B-Type board can cause a ROM 5 error?

Thanks in advance.

For the type-B the locations are:

ROM 1 = 2/D
ROM 2 = 2E
ROM 3 = 2B/C
ROM 4 = 2A
ROM 5 = 2P
ROM 6 = 2N
ROM 7 = 2K/L

The ROM might just need re-seating if you're lucky.

Thanks. ROM 4 and ROM 5 were both attacked by corrosion. One leg was broken. I repaired it, but the socket itself is in very bad condition. Burned a couple of new EPROMs, swaped them, but noting changed. I'll try to replace the sockets.

I let you know.

Thanks again for the help.
