I've been hammering away on my Dig Dug machine and I've got three questions:
Number 1: Is there any limit to the number of extra men you can have? The most I've ever had at one time is 6.
Number 2: After screen 70 something the game stops adding flowers at the top, does the round # keep going up (my screen is slightly obscured by the bezel so i can't see the whole round #)
Number 3: I always start each game by putting a quarter in and like to have about 30 quarters in the coinbox at all times, otherwise it just doesn't sound right when the quarter drops. Does anyone else out there feel the *need* to use quarters on their own games, even when free play option is available?

Other things I've learned:
I have better scores by about 25% in the evenings
I have better scores by about 25% after drinking large amounts of caffeine

1-I don't believe there is a limit to how many extra men you can earn, but you will not earn any extra men past 900,00.
2-The rounds keep counting up, even though the flowers stop.
3-I run mine on Freeplay ROM's- to each his own:)

3. I use quarters on my games too. It is the easiest route to go and it's how I played in the 80's. Those two things don't often line up, so when they do I am all over it.

If it stops giving you extra men at a certain point, doesn't that mean there's a limit? :D
Anyway, if you have the standard ROMset, the game will slow down around board 136, and 256 is a kill screen. The lookup table for where it places all the Pookas, Fygars and rocks and draws the tunnels gets messed up on board 256 (by grabbing data from the wrong memory location), and it places a Pooka on top of you, killing you as soon as the board starts.

How can anybody get far enough to worry about the flowers showing up or not? My best was around 460,000 on level 32 (or maybe 34 can't remember). Took about half an hour to play that far. I finally sold the thing because I got frustrated having to play for that long to have a decent game.
