I finally got a chance to troubleshoot the "ROM 1" error on the Dig Dug I picked up at the Rochester show. I removed all the ROMs, cleaned the pins and put them back in - no change. I pulled ROM 1 again, dumped the contents and ran it through ROMIdent, which returned the correct info. So, I replaced the ROM 1 socket and relflowed the solder on all the other ROM sockets while I was at it... Bingo!!!

When I got the DigDug that I used to own, it was completely dead. It had been bought by my boss at the time from the dead row of a Desmoines, IA auction. I don't remember what he paid for it but he gave it to me for Christmas that year. The monitor was dead. I recapped it and it came back to life. The PCB had garbage on the screen. The primary Z-80 CPU was bad and it ran but with no sound after that. I also replaced the third Z-80 and then it finally worked correctly. I had that game for 6 years. The Big Blue eventually died but that was the only other problem it ever had. It now resides with a family in Columbus, NE. The kids got it for Christmas. :)
