Dig Dug Cocktail to 60 in 1, a newbie has questions

Greetings all,
First time poster, long time lurker here. I just got a Dig Dug cocktail machine that I would like to eventually put a 60 in 1 in (all 4 way, 1 button games, I don't wish to alter the cosmetics or the ability to go back to a pure Dig Dug if I want). I have a couple questions that will likely seem basic around here but please forgive me.

Here's my issues:
Can I use a simple adapter like the one at http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm ? It's described as follows: "Galaga Cabinet to JAMMA PCB adaptor with -5 V.D.C. Power Supply. This adapter will enable a JAMMA PCB to work in these cabinets: Galaga, Galplus, Galaga 3, Bosconian, Mappy, Alien Sector, Baraduke, Dig Dug ..." (this is important to me because I'd rather not mess with power supplies if I do not have to).

My player one joystick is rather loose and can be unresponsive. I haven't had a chance to look under the hood yet (the game did not come with keys so I'll have to bore out the locks) but I may want to swap out the sticks with something with a smaller throw like a Pac Man red top. Since this Atari machine essentially has Namco guts will the stick be easily mountable without any cosmetic changes?

Am I an evil human being for wanting to do this? I promise no one will be playing Breakout or Centipede on this machine. I will turn off games if the control scheme is inappropriate for the machine.

Thanks in advance,
Enduro

My working machines: Asteroids with an Xbox 1 and X-Arcade Stick running MAME (it was completely gutted when I got it), Arkanoid (would love a multi-Arkanoid board if one exists) and Dig Dug cocktail.

Not working: Millipede (also gutted with original control panel and bizarre paint job around the graphics).

Unless the cabinet is hurting and not fairing well, then I suggest leaving it as is and NOT 60-1ing it. You gotta save as many working classics as possible. There will always be plenty of not-so-desireable games to multicade.

no! that adapter on arcadeshop is for the namco dig dug board, not the atari dig dug board.. Someone tried that here already.. Not pretty.

You need to make (or pay someone to make) a custom adapter harness to go from dig dug to jamma.

Should not be that hard to do, as DD has +5v and +12v on the edge connector. There is +36vac there to so don't make a mistake. Pretty sure the 60 in 1 does not need -5v.

you should should have wico leaf joysticks in there. its loose beacuse the the centering grommet is worn. you need to replace it.

dig dug is 4 way game, so swapping the joystick to a pacman one, will not make much of a difference(maybe worse).

to get to the dd joystick, you just need to remove the 2 bolts. not needed to open the top.

if your not going to harm the game, then I don't see 60 in 1 as a problem. DD is one of the 60, so why not..

Hope he's aware that only 1,219 cabinets of that machine were ever made. Seems like a waste to modify something that rare.

Doing a multi in a dedicated machine isn't so bad if you do as you're suggesting. I'm not really a fan of those but at least your heart is in the right place. You're not going to be bending over the thing ripping out parts and chucking wiring over your shoulder for good luck. Good. Bravo for wanting to be able to switch back to original. I had a Dig Dug upright for many years and enjoyed it much. See if you can hit 436,000. Good luck with working on it. Atari cocktails are f*ckin' cramped inside. (So are any others, really.)

Thanks for the lead on the grommet, I'll be ordering that before the day is done (I'm not going to get anywhere near those high scores or even 50k with it as is). Sometimes I cannot move in a certain direction at all so I hope that helps.

I wasn't aware of any American Namco Dig Dug machines either so thanks for the warning. I won't be making any other changes, if any for at least a month or two. I've always wanted to have about 10 of my favorite 4-way maze (Ms, Jr, Pac and DD) and shooters (Invaders, Galaga, Pheonix) in a bar height machine but some of these control panels I see are hideous abominations. I'm not a fan of the 60 in 1 on-screen menu either but it seemed like the least offensive way to get there without burning the bridge to get back to stock if I ever sell or get enough money/space to have dedicated machines.

Someone paid me to put a 60-in-1 in a Dig Dug cocktail a while back. I just installed a new harness and a switcher. Pretty easy...

Well, the grommet is currently out of stock but for some reason the joystick has started to respond better than it was (still very loose). I think I'm going to hold off on the conversion for the time being, one local repair shop I called quoted me a rather high price and said that I would not be able to restore from their conversion and another local gave me a more reasonable quote, albeit still high, he did not specify the reversal potential. I just got a Jamma Konami cabinet for 50 bucks, the screen is hit (burn in with lines and dim but very playable) and the player one joystick doesn't work in a couple directions. It currently has Devastors in it (yawn) and was a Contra cabinet at one time. I'm more comfortable learning on the job with this cabinet than in a nearly 30 year old classic.

So I have a couple new questions:
Can I buy NOS Wico sticks or get a lead on a well made repro?
What board can I plug and play with this Atari cabinet so I can have a couple different game options in the future?

Thanks again.
