First off: thanks to the KLOV member who gave me the hot tip on this one after seeing it in a photograph posted re: other machines on CL. It wasn't actually for sale at that point. He would've taken it for himself, but he had other things going on, and instead sent the seller's contact info my way. (He can reveal himself if he'd like to.)

The seller had this sitting in the back of storage for around 5 years after acquiring it from a bulk buy. He was nice enough to drive to my apartment and add it to my cabaret collection!

Pic #1: Some scrapes and bruises, but otherwise in pretty good shape. Coin counter still works for both mechs, and has 16K on it. No water damage that I can see. One dead spider inside, and that was all for cleaning.

Pic #2: Clean marquee - but check the first picture in the next post. I'm not convinced it came with a marquee light from the factory, even though I've seen Dig Dug cabarets with them.

Pic #3: Instruction sheet.

Pic #4: Number 32 of supposedly 505 made. Serial numbers match on the power board and transformer block. Pretty much everything inside that has a date says May of 1982.

Pic #5: Inside shot.

i hate you. i have the centipede and tempest and have been looking for a dig dug to complete the set for a while.

nice score btw. :)

Pic #1: I don't see former mounts for a maquee light behind the marquee...

Pic #2: What does that connector go to? Marquee light?

Pic #3: The reject button on the right says "Coin Control". Nice disclaimer!

Pic #4: The picture is slightly tilted to the right, but the colors are very good otherwise, and the monitor is bright. Some light Dig Dug burn-in...

Pic #5: I'm getting some artifacts on the screen after it's on for awhile, sort of like those old Nintendo cartridges would. Haven't cleaned edge connectors yet. High score saving is working; I cleared `em (but I shouldn't have - the old ones were well into the 300Ks!)

yes i do believe the connector in pic 2 is for the light.

What a great find. I'm really digging these Atari cabarets, and the rarity (and condition of) the Dig Dug is even better.

The connector is picture #2 is NOT for the light. The light is actually mounted behind the marquee on a piece of wood not shown in your pics and gets the 110v from another wire. Based on my experience, most Dig Dug and Centipedes cabarets did not come with the light, but virtually all Tempest did. It is easy to add a light and well worth the effort.

Also, I don't recall seeing a Dig Dug cabaret with the silver coin inserts. Maybe something will earlier versions (the two I have had were later #s).

Now thats a cool machine!!!

Thanks!

I saw two on eBay recently; one had a new monitor, and one was a Centipede conversion. I wanted an original with the original monitor; was nice to have someone point me to one almost literally in my back yard.

Those would look good together, no doubt. Keep looking - they're out there.

The full-size monitors are a trip in this small of a cabinet.

Hmmm - okay. Wonder what it's for, then...

I like the look with a light...but seeing as though this one doesn't look like it came w/one from the factory (and it's not mentioned in the manual, either), I probably won't alter it unless it's an extremely unobtrusive process to put one in.

Really? That's interesting. Do Centipede & Tempest cabarets have silver coin inserts?

My Centipede cabaret does not. My Missile Command cocktail does.

Ah, okay. My Warlords cocktail does, too.

Wow... what a great find! :beerchug:

Beer is in close proximity to this game; it's in the kitchen!

That is a nice looking machine. It is pretty cool that you got all the extras with it too.

You might want to snag one of these while they are still available: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=125809

So, I might be weird...but, unless a CP is super torn up, I don't like to see the CPO replaced. I like the wear and knowing it's the same one gamers rested their hands upon back in 1982.

I do think it's great, however, that there are repros out there, `cause some panels are torn to hell and really "need" one. Also, it's just a further testament to the hobby and how popular it is.

Seems like that wire is mentioned in the manual, but if memory serves it is for an alternate coin counter.

No, I wasn't suggesting that you replace yours. Yours is in pretty nice shape. Simply stating that you might want to pick one up just in case since those CPO's were a one time thing. I highly doubt that they will ever be screenprinted again due to the low volume of cabaret Dig Dug's that were made.

In fact, mine still has yet to be installed and I am undecided whether to install it. My Dig Dug came right out of the engineering lab via a former employee. The control panel has never had a CPO installed and I don't know if I want to be the one to install one. It is just semi-gloss black.....

That's true. Not a bad idea.

Cool! I say keep it the way it is. That blank CP sets it apart, and you'll always have a good answer for, "Hey - no CP overlay? What gives?"

Friggin awesome find dude! I found my Mint MK2 from a craigslist ad that had a galaga for sale, the guy didn't list the MK2 but I hit him up on it anyways.. turned out he didn't think the machine was worth much so he never listed it, and ended up selling it to me for a great price.

To this day it's the nicest 90's machine in my collection!

Now If it was Serial #32, I would have crapped myself, and there's prob. like 100K units of MK2 out there lol.. not 1 of 500 like yours.

Congrats on your find!

I just sold a dedicated mini for $350 the other day. Working with some cabinet damage at the bottom. Number 3XX out of 500. I had the mini for sale for some time with no bites. Guess I need to relist more often on items like this.

thanks for the pic of that cabaret side art mail in card. it's cool to see, more of the info on that coming in. and i've got to say, i've always loved the art on atari's manuals.

Yeah - that was a fun find.

I'm almost tempted to re-staple it all to the back door, but the plastic bag is too old and brittle.

I forgot how much I liked playing Dig Dug; three enemies coming after you at the same time, and your heart starts pounding! I hear Atari hated this game, though...
