I'll have to look when I'm up at my customer's in the next week or so. He has one, too...

the only thing that should bother anybody about this auction is its overpriced...Those are replacement seat backs btw so the marquee was probably slashed and this is more than likely a replacement one.

I saw that a week ago and wondered the same thing. The image is taken from one of the promotional images released to magazines prior to the games release. I know the image was featured in Edge/Next Generation in 1996 or so. I have the mag somewhere if anyone wants the exact month of publication.

My guess is that it is either a very early official marquee or a one off. I can't see someone spending the money for a custom piece, but I guess it is possible.

I saw that too. More importantly, I now know that alot of people are looking at SSGT auctions. =). But I do like header.

I think it is a homemade repro, esp with the replacement seatbacks. Are there better pictures where you can actually tell the quality of it? To me, it looks like it was just clipped from the bottom of the promo flyer. If that's the case the quality/sharpness probably leaves a lot to be desired.

I was thinking that it was a prototype marquee. It looks like it has a copyright date on it. It looks a little more modern that the other marquee.

Per "pat9000" who knows his shit, the Sega Super GT was a conversion bought by Tilt arcades, from my understanding they had a crap load of ? (I cannot recall) drivers and requested a full conversion kit to update these drivers. The result was the Yellow Sega Super GT, only available to tilt arcades. The red version was actually a deluxe import version (This per the local Tilt mgr). So for what it's worth, that's the story I was able to compile. As I mentioned earlier, mine is the red setup. \m/ \m/

The Tilt cabs with yellow trim were converted Touring Car Championship cabs. The ones with red plastic sides (like mine and all others who posted in this thread) were the US versions with the cab based off the US Daytona USA style, wooden cabs. A real imported on would be labeled as Scud Race, have an entirely different topper and would be in the Japanese style, all-metal cabinets as shown below.

Our Super Gt cabs are nice, but the Japanese ones are much nicer. THere's not a lot of the true imported cabs in the US.

There's an arcade not too far from where I live that has one of those Japanese cabinets. But it's running the U.S. version.

+1 on what Radiac says. I've seen a few of the all metal/plastic import types in the US but they aren't as popular as the red woody with plastic sides that you see everywhere. All I've seen that I can remember said SCUD, but I haven't seen one in a while and my memory isn't great, I admit.

Pat9000 does know his stuff and I've seen a dozen of the yellow models and only at Tilts. They look so good though, that I wonder if they were converted before the Touring Car cabinets were even finished or released?

Personally I like the red cabinet the best. Cosmetically the USA and import models are almost the same so I'm not that picky, but given the choice I'd take the all metal/plastic import.

BTW wvhyperboy, have you signed up on WVARCADE.COM yet?? We have a pretty strong local game group, plus the pin group at wvpinball.com. I LOVE super GT, let me know if you want to sell or trade yours!

They probably look so good because Touring Car was such a crap game nobody bothered to play it. :D

I do like the looks of the Tilt cabs. The yellow and black is pretty sharp IMO. The Rally style metal marquee holder looks kind of crappy, though. I much prefer the US topper. However, I love the carbon fiber look on the seat backs, and I really love that the seat backs have the Japanese Saturn logo on them. I was a huuuuuge Saturn fan back in the day, and I remember hoping against hope that the hinted at upgrade cart would be released to allow for decent Model 3 ports.

I may have overestimated the power of my little Saturn a bit...

I can confirm that (at least mine) was definitely a Touring Car cabinet from Tilt.
The Touring Car label is inside the monitor hood (and I bought it from Tilt).

I do like the yellow/carbon color scheme better than the full red,
the carbon look to the seat backs is sweet, but looks black in the pictures.
Anyway, at a full 8 inches thinner for the twin, it fits my space much better.

I do like the look of the plastic sides, but like the topper on mine better.

I'm still working on the final assembly upstairs, I have taken everything apart for total cleaning inside and out. Still have the dashes to do.

Yup. I like the yellow much better too. I made the sketchup model based off the one at my local tilt.

That's a really nice cab. It even has unmolested seat back stickers. Its pretty uncommon to find a twin with even one side still with the Sega Super GT stickers intact. Yours has both and the numbers. Very cool. I do like the carbon fiber seatbacks, but what really sells it for me is the Japanese Saturn logo. Awesome.
