Did you guys ever try to build your own arcade game when you were kids?

I never had money like Ricky Schroder in silver spoons so owning a arcade game back in the 1980's was only a dream. I remember back in 1987 when I was 10 constructing a stand up machine out of cardboard and plywood that had something like a 13" crt hooked up to an atari 2600. It had a control pannel with the joysticks attached with rubber cement and a cardboard coin door. I am sure it looked like crap but remembering back I think it looked pretty sweet. Did any of you try and make your own arcade machines when you were kids?

I made one out of a cardboard lingerie dresser, additional cardboard, a 13 inch B/W tv, NES, NES advantage, and a lot of silver duct tape. haha.

It wasn't long after the construction was completed that the cardboard lingerie dresser started to crumble on the bottom and eventually tumbled over sideways.

Do any of you guys remember the Nintendo Arcade kit they advertised in a few Nintendo Power magazines in the 80's? You inserted your tv on a shelf, there was another shelf for 2 NES Advantage, and another lower shelf for the game system. I always wanted that.

I never made a full size arcade machine, but I did create about ten model arcade games out of cardboard. Each one was about 9 - 10 inches high, and was decorated with hand drawn full side art, bezels, cpos and marquees. I copied the cabinet shapes and artwork from pictures in Electronic Games magazine as well as a few of the "how to win at video games" books.

I made games like Defender, Missile Command, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac, Super Pac, Centipede, Q*Bert, etc.
