We've all seen something scratched into the side of a game like intials or nice words...

Are you guilty of ever doing something to a cab that you shouldn't have been doing?

Breaking in, getting free credits or just beating the hell out of it.

I was never one to destroy stuff, so I never thought to do anything like that. I just wanted to play them.

And YOU?

:D

I know I've pulled on artwork that was already peeling. Mostly side art as I stood next to someone who was playing the game. Other than that, no.

I say guilty...

And the fact that someone was playing the game is irrelevant.

I was a poor kid intrigued by these games, that is why I was standing around. It is no excuse, more of an admission of opportunity.

Oh, and I am sure I put some dents into some games at the roller rink over the years. What kid respectfully strolls up to a game when you have skates on? Even today, when I take my seven year old to the roller rink, I see kids using the base of the game cabs to halt their forward progress.

it's only fair. if you think about it, a game that eats your quarter without giving you a credit vandalizes YOU. it helps balance out the universe :)

(but to answer the question ... maybe an angry kick every now and then, but that's it)

I don't recall damaging any games myself. I never really had the mind to do it. I do recall a few times a game was vandalized by someone else. I remember a coin bowling game at FunWay (local skate rink/arcade/bowling/etc) that would spit out tickets if you shook it just right when I was real young. I took advantage of that, but never caused it myself iirc.

I have kicked many games before that ate my money when I was young. I never ripped off art or scratched anything into them.

I didn't damage the outside or anything but I did try the quarter on a string trick at the recomendation of my neighborhood friends. It didn't work, and the string broke. I think the quarter jammed in there because the next guy put a quarter in and he couldn't get it play. Not sure if this counts.

The only thing I can remember doing was smacking the coin door on Galaxian and Galaga to reset the high scores so I could beat them. Other than that, I never caused any damage.

in my local arcade i jammed perfume samples in all the coin mechs because the lady yelled at me for "bringing too many friends in"

Funny you should post this thread. I was just thinking about this over the weekend. We spend all this time fixing up games that we once kicked, scratched and peeled as kids. Good stuff.

I've never vandalized a game or anything coinop, however I did used to "steal" Pepsi's from the soda machine in the gym at high school... for years. Drill a tiny hole in a quarter... attach fish-line... with a little finesse ... BOOM free Pepsi. I probably lost a half dozen of them eventually, but I got out at least a case worth of soda over the years.

Nope. I was fascinated with computers, and the video games were impressive (for the time). I just wanted to open one up and see what was inside. I worked at a Kroger, which had several games in the front of the store. I sacked groceries, and would blow all of my tips (people tipped quarters back then) on the games during my breaks. One day, the operator was working on the Centipede, and I got to look inside. For a 17 year old geek, that was awesome.

back in the 1980's when we were younger than 18 years old, we would war dial all night to get free 6-digit codes we'd dial using some 950-xxxx number to dial anywhere in the world for free! yay!

and we'd dial this alliance teleconference calls too with many l33t hackers on it. so fun.

i miss those days. the internet is boring AF.

I pulled this button off a game as a kid. It was loose so I kept turning it until the nut came off. Probably twisted the wiring up good too in the process. Haven't seen this button in over 20 years until today. Ive only known leaf switch and micro switch so whats up with this button? Says Pat. Pend. on it. I believe the game had a ninja character, it was the mid to late 80's and the button came from the left side of the control panel.

The round sticker I removed from a Thunder Blade control stick in 1991. It was a deluxe and was the last game I ever played in that arcade.
