If they did I would be interested in one if someone out there wanted to part ways with it. I don't have the room for a full size machine and asteroids has been one of my favs for a longtime.

Thanks,

They sure did. I know a few people out here were selling one at some point. Search through the FS threads..

1. As the others have said, yes they did. You shouldn't have to spend a mint to get a nice one, and they're not too difficult to find. Good-looking machines, too. Working condition: $300-$500.

2. If you don't have room for an upright, consider the space you'll need for a cocktail: room for two people to sit, and the cocktail is wider than the full-sized machine.

Yeah, unless you are going to actually use the game as a table, the upright takes up less floor space. It's heavy as fuck though- especially if you try and move the upright by yourself.

Atari also made cabarets of Asteroids that would take up less space than either the upright or cocktail.

and i'll agree with previous posters, unless you're using it in place of/for a table, a cocktail takes up more floor space than an upright. i had a Deluxe cocktail for a bit and man does it eat up the real estate. i sold that and bought an upright for the larger screen, superior art, and smaller footprint.

A pizza place in South Lake Tahoe has a nice working Asteroids cocktail. I love riding my Mt. Bike on trails to get there and play a few games.

TexasMame has one for sale on Dallas Craigslist too..dunno if he'd be willing to ship it or if you want to pay the costs.

I have one I would sell $400 was working before I moved it, I paid $400 and it has been sitting for a year. dont even remember what it does now, from what i remember overall condition is nice. I can take some pics if you want. I am only about 4 hours away. If I could fit it in my car I could bring it down to madison after the first of the year.

The first asteroids I ever played was a cocktail. To me, it still seems more correct than the upright.

I've also seen an Atari Football converted to Asteroids! Talk about weird. And I don't know HOW they did it, but it played OK. It was in the Videotopia warehouse 12 years ago or so.

I have had both and agree that the CT takes way more room. In fact I had an absolutely mint CT that I sold while keeping an average UR because of space issues. Also the UR has a 19" screen and at my old age I prefer that now. You may want to consider a cabaret if you are looking to save space. They are a little more tougher to find, but I have a Battlezone cabaret and I really enjoy it.

By the time I have chairs on either side of it, my Super Pac-Man cocktail takes up the same space as 2 uprights. Its a common misconception that cocktail tables use up less room because they are smaller. Not so. However, I love my Super Pac and the only way I would get rid of it is if I found an upright. The only problem with cocktail tables is that they are way too easy to leave things lying around on. Now that I have a suitable basement, the Super Pac doesn't have that problem but it used to accumulate crap and get used as a workbench.

It was some strange bootleg conversion kit that used the original 23" crt with the G05 guts hacked onto it. It actually plays great.

Have a problem with the size on the floor. Take those short legs off and have someone weld large ones and make it a standing cocktail. No more chairs just good playing fun.
