Did My First Tube Swap! K4600 chassis to a G07 tube

Recently I was given a free game with a trashed cab. It had a k4600 in it, and after totally recapping it, it looked the same: no whites, and green overpowering everything. I was irritated that I had spent the money for the caps, especially when one was $4.50. Anyway, a while back I removed a tube from a dead G07 chassis, and it sat in the back of the garage. It had a lot of burn in, so I figured it wasn't worth saving. I never got around to taking it to the dump. For the hell of it, I wondered if I could swap tubes- something many of you probably already knew. Anyway I loosened the 4 main bolts, removed the neckboard and slipped off the convergence rings and yoke and it was free. I removed the yoke and convergence rings off the g07, and then slipped the G07 tube in it's place. An hour and a half later, it's looking halfway decent. The geometry is a little off (it sags slightly on the right side), and the picture is slightly off center... but the colors are awesome and the picture is really sharp.

Anyway this tube swap was super simple and took just a few minutes. Direct plug and play it seems. I do have a few extra wires dangling from the G07 tube though, that I should remove.

Anyway, maybe this will give a beginner some confidence.

Nice going! I have actually grown to really enjoy doing tube swaps, except when my negligence/stupidity/ditziness is the reason I am doing the swap in the first place.

Thanks for this, I've got an intact, unknown condition tube from a 4900 awaiting a transplant from a formerly working 4900 with a cracked neck. I don't have a game that needs it right away, but, man, I'd love the shelf space I could get by getting rid of the cracked tube!

It was a great feeling being able to salvage a tube I was going to trash, and I wasn't pissed about spending the money on caps anymore. Yeah I killed my first tube a few days ago. Broke the glass right off the neckboard. Luckily it wasn't one I was working on. It was in a completely trashed cab that I stumbled upon, so no big loss.

The thing is, the k4600 tube has way less burn in, and is newer. I just assumed that the G07 was worthless considering it's age and burn in. I don't have access to a Rejuvinator, so I may just junk it. Swapping it out is worth a shot, since it only takes a few minutes.

I was just about to mention that a rejuvinator should clear up that green gun that sounds like it's stuck. You might want to call a TV repair shop to see how much they'll charge you to test the tube and remove the short for you.
