Hey guys,

so today I did my first cap kit on a WG K7000 chassis. Everything went smooth and I double checked everything to make sure I had the right polarity and everything was great. set it all back up into the cab and monitor powers up, I see the glow in the neck and everything is working but the screen is all messed up.

It keeps rolling like crazy and I can't get it to stabilize at all with the adjustment pots. I looked over everything and I swear I don't see anything wrong. the only thing I am unsure of is the Anode cap. when I put it back on it was pretty loose. not sure how it's supposed to be secured on there. could that be the cause? I ended up looking around some more and accidently moved the wire for the anode cap and the damn thing just fell off. scared the crap out of me.

Did you adjust your holds? What about your 50/60Hz pot? And I assume your sync is hooked up right?

First secure the anode with the clips in the hole on the tube, not just the suction cup, second make sure your second connection for V-Sync is hooked up, its next to the RGB connection.

I adjusted both Vertical hold and Horizontal hold and all it did was slow down the rolling. it actually only rolls vertically right now.

I'm not sure where or what the 50/60hz pot is though? I don't see anything pot labeled that.

Ya I made sure V-Sync was hooked up.

how do you secure the anode cup with the clips in the hole? pretty much what I did was come in on an angle and thought I got one side in then I just pushed it on thinking the other clip should go in.

now that the anode cap just fell off, how do I go about discharging the monitor again? do I just put the screwdriver into the hole of the monitor now?

I don't want to go put the anode cap back on and get zapped lol

try two things....

wiggle the sync connector to see if you have a bad connection.. the pins develop cracks in the solder and can cause intermittent issues... if wiggling helps then youve found the issue.

if wiggling doesent help.. try moving the sync connector one pin foward.. sometimes ops did that back in the day.. and also make sure the sync connector isnt on backwards as well..

I would also check to maks sure the hold pots are not cracked.. its easy to do on these monitors....

aqnd yes screwdriver to hole in tube...

make sure you get that anode wire hooked in well it takes a little technique but hook one side then peel back the cup so you can see then move it in a fashion so the other hook gets in there and under, then you can let the cup go and your done..

Thanks for the help. will have to give it another try tomorrow. Gotta give the kids a bath.

I should also note that the monitor and chassis was working before I did the cap kit, only reason I did the cap was cause I had a couple of wavy lines on one side of the screen. wasn't that noticeable but bothered me enough to cap it.

To answer your discharge question, the k7000 discharges when you shut it off. There's no need to discharge it cuz there's not gonna be anything there. Roll the anode cap backwards and hook the clip in the hole.

Thanks for all the help guys. I discharged the monitor again and there was a spark and little pop. so it definately needed to be discharged.

I got the anode cap back on there and got it on right this time.

Big thanks goes out to Cadillacman! moved the sync connector one pin foward. Can't believe thats all it was. Monitor is working perfect and looks better than ever. Nice clear picture.

thanks again guys!

whoohoo!!! glad it was a ez fix!!

have you learned to really lookover the chassis and connections before you pull em now??? i burned myself several times before i learned to make note of that stuff... just cuz ops were ops didnt mean they setup the games correctly lol..
:D

I got zotted on something on a U5000, and that was with me discharging the tube, something on the left hand side of the chassis underneath, that's what did it lol

I'm disappointed, my K7100 doesn't make any cool sparks and stuff when I discharge it. :(

glad you fixed it though, I'm a big fan of stupid and easy solutions myself, takes out the guesswork. I think of it like an ugly offensive drive in football that ends with a touchdown -- at least you score big if you fix it. lol
