Did I Suicide? Help Stat

It was a USA blue board. Doesn't make any sense. I changed the battery in my Puzzle Fighter right before and that went fine.

Yeah, the time limit is not the problem then. My very first CPS-2 BLUE board battery change took about 45 minutes, and the game works great.

Also curious: Was the battery installed "reverse" or "backwards" (with the + side of the battery touching the - contact on the board, and vice versa)--even for a split second.

I ask because some phoenixers put the battery in "reverse" or "backwards" to kill a board.

No, I double checked the polarity before I installed the battery. I always right it down and then leave the old battery or cap nearby facing the correct direction for a visual reference. The positive end of the battery is/was facing the EPROMS.

I have no idea what happened. I even installed a second battery hoping it had not died, but alas.

Ok, then your battery was installed correct. Once, I was installing a new battery and I made reverse contact for a split second (while I was setting up the new battery) and that killed my board.

Well, it's just a hunch: But, it seems like the current was interrupted, as mentioned above.

Unfortunately, after a CPS-2 game fails to start (suicides), installing a battery (even a second battery) will not put the start up codes back onto the board. Been there--Done that--Same results.

What the board really needs is to have the start-up codes re-flashed onto the board and a new battery put on the board.

But, since that repair option is only a CAPCOM fix, your next best option is either to revive (phoenix) the dead board or sell or trade the dead baord to someone who is looking for a CPS-2 parts board or a CAPCOM project.

The next time you replace the battery you might want to put power to the caps with some other source, batteries or low voltage supply. This will keep the voltage on at the board while you change the battery.

well at least your batterys had voltage... i didn't check my "new" battery before i installed it...yea it was dead and then so was my board.

That is actually what I thought happened. Eh, live and learn. I'll use a helper battery next time or I will just have the board phoenixed.
