Did I screw up selling my Z-Back control panel?

Capcom CPS2 A board + X-Men Vs. SF B board (Blue)

... Not something I was looking for, but figured it was a good deal so I shouldn't pass it up. He said it was working fine, hasn't suicided yet...

...I gotta stop this. I don't even like fighting games.

...I'm trying to dump one of my Z-Back cabs. Is it priced right? Only problem is no working monitor.

My Z-Back cabinet on craigslist for sale

I bought the X-Men Vs. Street Fighter CPS2 A+B boards from the guy on Oahu and it works perfectly fine.

We've talked on the phone a couple of times and he really wants my Z-Back cabinet but there's no way I'm shipping it. It's too much of a hassle to load onto my truck, take 1 hour north to the port, put it on a palette, and send on a barge. No way.

But he really wants the metal control panel from the Z-Back. It has the Capcom fighter overlay, 6 buttons per player, and is wired with the Kick harness.

I hope I'm not giving away the store, but he offered to pay me what I was asking for the whole cabinet, but just wants me to ship him the metal control panel with wiring and controls. I've agreed to it, and just hope I didn't agree to sell away the holy grail of all control panels.

Did I screw up?

it's late here so I'll ask...is this a joke?

No, no joke. I know just about nothing when it comes to these cabinets and games.

I got into this mess looking just for a Ms. Pac-Man / Galaga cocktail table, and now I've got 3 uprights that I don't really want and I have no idea what their parts are worth.

I take from your question that:

a) I sold away the holy grail of control panels for a pittance (someone told me Z-Backs are hard to find?)

or

b) it's worthless, and I shouldn't of asked this question (sorry, I'm an arcade newbie)

Glad I could provide your entertainment. I still don't know if I gave away the store, or if I got the better end of the deal. I just don't know about Z-Backs, control panels, etc.

Hopefully, it was just a fair deal for both parties (with a slight edge in my favor). But I got a feeling that's not the case.

OK, so I've done a little looking around and see that the used "cut corner" control panels have been for sale for around $50 bucks as blanks. Mine has dual joysticks and 6 buttons per player, so that's about $70. Jamma harness $10. SF2 Kick harness $15. Plexiglass $25.
Total $170.
Add in shipping from the vendors and it totals around $220.
So he offered to buy it for $180 because it's used, and that seems like a fair price just on used parts alone.

Am I off base?

IMO, the thing was worthless and you are good.
Thanks for the real reply. I honestly had no idea, and don't know what's collectible and what is trash.

I guess from the guy's point of view, he really wanted it because he's building a Z-Back cabinet, and to have a metal cut corner control panel fabricated or wait for one to show up (remember, we're in Hawaii, not much inventory here) might not ever happen, he was really happy to make an offer to buy mine to complete his project.

From my point of view, this Z-Back is big and ugly and taking up too much space in my garage. I'm glad to part it out to someone who wants it. I just didn't want to give anything away that had collectible value.

It's good to know that no part of the Z-Back is collectible or has much of any dollar value (is this correct?)

Yeah I personally like the z back styling but wouldn't pay much of anything. I own 2 of them, I was given the first one and paid $10 for the other because it had a complete monitor in it. I can get more for the parts than I can the cabinets, and for that they just sit in my warehouse until I do something with them.

Dang Pinball you need to send me some of those Dynamo's if your getting them for free ;) . Seriously I am looking for a couple of these cabs and if you got some kind of hook-up let me in for a finders fee paid to you.

The overlay is a generic reprint, the buttons and joysticks are worth more than the used panel and the panels can be picked up on line fairly cheap.

I actually have a plan for both of the z backs at the moment but I probably won't get to the one anytime soon. I will check into it and see what plans I have for it still and get back to you.

If you find some or do want to unload one of the two you have just PM me a price. Maybe you could bring it to the arcade party on the 12th for a small fee? ;)

Hey if it's worth $180 to him, then you got a good deal. Both parties are happy as well so....

That's the way I figure. He really wanted it, and it would sure cost him a lot more to have one fabricated by a metal shop.

Plus when I added up the sum of the parts if purchases separately, it was about $200 in parts so I think $180 is fair just on paper.

My only concern was whether I had sold something that had collectible value (I'm a newbie to this)... and I know now that it's not.

I'm also going to offer him the whole gutted Z-Back cabinet for free (after he pays me for the CP), if he wants to hire a freight company to come and pick it up and put it on the barge to Oahu since he bought the CP from me.

a) no

b) I would say that it's worth about $75-100

So you sent him the CP with no payment in hand? Good luck getting paid.

I was born at night, but not last night.

Nope, he's not getting the CP until after I get payment. He can have the cab after he buys the CP. If I offer him the cab now, he's going to ask me to haul that beast to the shipping port as part of the deal for buying the CP, in which case I'll tell him to go pack-sand, and nothing will get sold.
