Did I miss the announcement about this...

i saw it on CL too.. i bought it last night but didnt have time to look through it. I have to report a couple of issues though:

1. you are only allowed 2 downloads.. my browser crashed before i downloaded it and it still counted as '1' of the downloads.
2. i tried many times over the course of a day and the site redirects to a mobile site on my iphone (no issues with that), but the mobile site kept timing out.
3. the pdf is 108 pages and > 10MB, which is too large for my iphone to open. i worked on it on my pc at work and optimized the doc and reduced the file size and got it down a little bit more. tried splitting it into two pdfs to read on my iphone and it didnt work too well.

Rob Maerz is the editor. from a quick glance, it looks promising. i just wish there was an iphone app/reader for this.

Just downloaded this and dropped it into my CloudReaders app on my iPad and it works like a charm - should work on iPhone too - CloudReaders does comics, PDF, and other files and this magazine needed no conversion - just copied it in using iTunes and it looks great!

He's going to do a printed run as well. The vintage ad's really add to the coolness of it.

i will have to check out cloudreader. were you able to do all of this without desktop interaction? i rarely am on my pc at home.

Yeah, I already posted a link to the website and browsed through the forum.

So, is there anything of value here or is it just a bunch of "look at me and my gaming skills" noise? The article descriptions don't look promising enough for me to spend money on an issue.

Also, am I supposed to know who Rob Maerz is?

Is this his magazine? He's cool, he's on Atariage also.

An ad just popped up on my local Craigslist, who put this out?

I'm glad to see that Craigslist has been put to good work here. I've targeted the biggest cities in the US along with hip areas like Seattle, Portland and the Bay Area.

Retrocade Magazine is heavily influenced by the Electronic Games Magazines of the early 80s. We have scoreboards, popularity charts, interviews, articles, a full chapter from Jeff Spega's (of Digital Press) great (yes, it is that good) new book "Tron and Robotron," reviews of two hot new home brew games (that literally were released within two weeks of releasing the digital edition), event coverage and more.

So no - it's not a magazine full of bragadocious arcade gamers. For example, there are articles regarding the history of Computer Space, an interview with the owners of High Scores Arcade, interviews with home brew developers, Todd Tuckey's commentary on the past and future of the arcade and an investigation into a lost Donkey Kong Junior world record.

It is a niche magazine that focuses on the classic era from Space Wars up to the mid 1980s. Everything that revolves around that: players, arcades, developers, the games, collectors, authors et al.

Some do and some don't. If you go to this page http://retrocadeweb.webs.com/about.htm
it talks a little about who I am. I'm a gamer, collector, writer and a classic gaming bigot. So, you won't see any Sega Genesis in our mag!

I wrote some articles previously for Classic Video Gamer which are available for free for members of the Retrocade Magazine forums.

So, is the mag worth it for 5 cents per page? Yes indeed!
