Did I just score my first game?

I wouldn't try to flip it, stay with your lanscaping "core" business and the work in the bar.
When it's all not going so well, just play a few hours of Punch out or work on the machine a bit, takes your mind off things and before you know it the economy is better and you have plenty of offers for work and NO time to play Punch Out.

I think that Punch Out can be a gift from heaven that will get you trough the dark days.

I think I might have just bought my first game. According to the seller, they have a Punch-out that plays perfectly and the only thing wrong is the top screen is a little fuzzy.

$100 out the door. My plan is to probably work on this one and sell it, not sure though.

Any ideas on the "fuzzy" screen issue?

Start by pulling the glass off and cleaning it. A lot of "Fuzzy" images clear up real quick when there isn't an inch of dirt on the screen and glass.

If you get it for $100, keep it for a while at least. You could sell it, but how long will that money last you until you're at the same financial situation ? Money comes and goes, but a nice game at this price is hard to find.

Get it and appreciate it for a while. Or look into vending machine permits and maybe use the game to start earning money for you.

A good game to flip is Marvel Vs. Capcom. There is always interest in that game. Generic cabinets with 25 inch monitors are very common ($100-$150) and the controls and buttons are cheap. The boardset is anywhere from $50-$100 with the A&B boards. Slap on some shiny new black paint and put in a Marvel Vs. Capcom marquee and you should be able to double your investment or more every time. The game is still in demand from collectors and operators. It still makes money. You can make money just selling this one game, and avoid a lot of hassles.

There, you now have my secret.

Its almost 2010. No one in bars care about arcade games anymore.

As a blanket state I would agree. However the one game that continues to be popular and makes a killing is the Golden Tee series. Put a 60-1 right next to the Golden Tee and see which one makes more. Believe me it's not even close. I'm not a Golden Tee fan boi but proof is in the cash box whcih is always full on these.

And the title of this thread reminded of when Butthead got strip searched, "Uhhhhhhh did I just score huh huh"

I'm trying to line up the pick up time now. I've only got an e-mail address to reply to, so the response time is a little slower. Also it's raining today and tomorrow and I really don't want to risk getting damage trying to get it to my house in the rain.

The positive thing for me is that this is a private sale. Never listed anywhere so I'm not "fighting" anyone on this. The woman actually has some other games (Rastan, Contra, Rescue 911 pin) that I contemplating also buying but it all comes down to $ factor.

I'm basically following in my parents footsteps with this. They are antique dealers (the kind that don't rip people off). They just spend a ton of time on the road looking for good deals and turning them around and selling them. They actually make more money from this than both of their day jobs. Though this, they now actually have people that call them (at least 1 phone call a night) for people to come look at their private collections and make offers on their stuff. Landscaping will also becoming a second business as I'm going to back to work full time soon. The landscaping is mostly mowing and I've got enough friends that I can do this in the evenings with no issues.

I'll let you know and post pics when I have it in my possession.

Man, I would love to get a Rastan cheap... :( Shame you live so far away. Another one of my childhood faves.

That's almost a raid. Offer up $75 per if you take all of them and you'll be really ahead! :D

Excellent choice on selling, Punchout is not much fun long term. Fix the game up and you will make some money selling it and get two better games :)

Punch-Out was known for its "staying power" in the arcades, so your opinion here is far from typical.

It is also more fun if you are good at it.

Dude, Rastans are all over the place. I'm sure someone has a spare board they can sell you.

Yeah, I know. But $75 for a mostly complete one would still hook me! :D

Yup that's what its called an "Opinion". Personally I think the NES version of Punchout is much more fun... wait... did I say that? Yup I did :)

That's funny. I had a feeling that was the case. Here's a post I made a few weeks ago:

Unless he grew up playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. It is next to impossible to convince most of those guys that arcade Punch-Out is the better game (better graphics, sounds, animation, mechanics, etc.).

"But there's no King Hippo! Where's Doc Louis?! Why is 'Little Mac' so big, and green?! Where are the stars and hearts?! There's no story!" and so on.
