I picked up an NBA Jam this weekend. I was having issues with discoloration in the corners. I took a look at the back of the monitor and there was a connector that was disconnected. The manual was unclear to me (Hantarex Polo 25) but I knew this is an auto degaussing monitor so figured that connector needed to be connected. When I fired the game up smoke poured out the back. Here is a photo of the connector. Did I just fry the board?

that should be the deguass coil. i have only worked on a few of the polos and i personally hate them... i will say every one i have worked on had so many cold solder joints it was ridiculous. you should check the connector with a meter and see if its shorted. (you can run the monitor without it plugged in). i think your going to have to pull it and check things more because smoke is never a good sign.

here's a fun test. measure continuity between both pins in the degauss plug against the metal frame. :)

those are only really insulated with like electrical tape. if any portion of the coil is exposed to the metal that will probably happen.
