Just bought an area 51 arcaade game. paid 450.00. i learned it's considered not a factory one (can't remember whats it's called). Looks good, plays good. the CRT in great shape but the test buttons just inside the coin door don't work and there is no other way on the board to get into the test mode. There are manual adjustments for the CRT on the side, inside. I'm calling it a knock off cuz it seems that someone just put it together (although a good job) to make some money. Set on free play, can someone please tell me about it and how I may get into the test mode. Thanks all....

No, you didn't get took. $450 for a game that still makes some money on route is OK, esp. if the monitor is a good, 25 inch medium res, which I think Area 51 is.

If all the test buttons don't work, look for a broken ground wire between them and the PCB boards. It it's just one, then look for broken wires from that one switch. This will be an easy fix for you.

BTW, the term you are looking for is "Conversion". Someone took another game and Converted it to Area 51. Happens all the time, as Area 51 was released as a kit for people to use to convert their older games, and for newer games I don't think it hurts the value much, if at all.

I do know it was some Mickel Jackson game. I tore out some small sticker inside that had some old instructions.

im sure you could find a buyer for that cab if you wanted to find a area 51 cab...
