Did Galaga ever come in a maroon cabinet?

I picked up a great looking Galaga today. Very cheap and am very happy with it. Works great but has a bit of burn. What's odd though, is the cabinet is maroon. It's cabinet #30074 and if the operator put new laminate on, he did a fantastic job. You can't tell where it was cut in the least, which makes me think it was done like this from the factory.

Also - the back door is locked and he didn't have a key. I can see the original boards and monitor so I was fine purchasing it, but are Midway backdoors the same as Nintendo in that they are all the same?

Anyway, here is my new family member!

Congrats on the great pick up.

Never seen one in that color but no worries. Enjoy it.

Nope, never maroon. Should probably have black under those sides and maybe leftovers of original art. Someone changed up the sides on that one. Just like the CP isn't factory black either. :D

I should also note that this serial is double stamped, one over the other. And the back door has a bubble for a monitor tube. Kind of strange.

My trick on saving those locks is to take the Marquee/light off. Then with a long screwdriver, stool and a flashlight, reach in and unscrew the lock bolt from the inside. Sometimes too you find a key somewhere in the machine too. Good luck!

Wow. Great idea! Thank you! I will try that today!!

I am starting to wonder if this might be an original white Galaga.

With the monitor bubble, it is a possibility.

I bought it for my dad for Christmas - while he was working yesterday, I moved it into their basement. I hid it in my old room and stacked boxes around it. My old room is filled with my old stuff from moving back from LA. So he rarely goes in there and it's hidden quite well. I am going to sneak in there several times between now and then to get it looking better. I hope to find a place where the red laminate is peeling to see what it is. Perhaps if it doesn't look too bad, i'll take it off and see if there is side art under there!

I do the opposite to lock the keys inside the game before selling.

Does anyone have any suggestions for removing the red vinyl? I am thinking of using a heat gun but wanted suggestions. I got a small part of it off......there is a small dime sized piece of white paint.....Now I have to see the rest of it.
