Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Leinhit, hang in there man. You are like a pacman buddah. Theres now way in hell i could have given the machine this much patience. By now it would have been converted to a friggin wood pile with a sledgehammer that i would have proceeded to set of fire with about 40 gallons of gas lol. But keep on it man you will get it fixed. Ive has a few rough repairs myself

You mean the anticipation/entertainment value has worn off already? Believe me, even tho this has been actually fun, there are times I'd rather be reading it than living it. Now is one of them....

Damn I was all excited to try DogP's heater winding...
I'm gonna go pull the chassis out again..

Festivus huh.. hmmm...

While that's a nice idea, at this point I'd say it's personal. That monitor has no business being broken for this long, and Leinhit needs to make it his bitch now no matter how long it takes.

Up until the SIGN FROM GOD I've been waiting for the solution.

Everyday there is either progress or something to try, and I expect that the next time I check it will be "working like new".

But eventually you have to realize that some battles have no winner. So while I like the "go for it" attitude, I think a collection should be taken for a new monitor. "Leinhit still should make it his bitch"

I'd collect PayPay donations, but think it should be handled by a "senior" forum member that is trusted and known better.

I applaud your efforts. I for one often go to far in a repair and usually cause as much damage, if not more, than I am trying to fix. I can truly say I feel your pain. Given that, man...I have to say throw it in!!!

Tell you what, here is something that goes on twice a year in my neck of the woods. Next event is in April. Bring that damn monitor down and we can get it taken care of. I will even put you up at my house and let you play my games for free. Heck, bring me a GO7 or a good old Wells Garner chassis and I will rebuild it for you while you are here.

Well.. I'm back to work after my vacation days off.. have to work the next 7 days, 10 hr shifts in a row..
frown.gif

Started looking at the chassis.. swapped a couple of things, started testing others, have to pull a bunch out to test out of the board.

*Just to confirm.. basically a diode should give a reading one way only.. with red on the anode, blk on the cathode? Looking for the junction drop of .5 to .9?

What about caps and transisters? Just looking for "L" (overload) readings on Ohms to indicate a bad one?

And I'm concentrating on the 180 V section.

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

You need to concentrate on getting the 123 back first, then you can worry about the focus again when you have a picture...

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Sorry,, tired here.. I meant was working on the 123V section...

I'm only assuming the problem is gonna be in the 123 section because thats what I was testing and shorted something out. I thinking prob. a diode got shorted.

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

OK... Well. Today I did the following:

I swapped out as they tested odd or bad out of the board:

D804
D803
D802

R811
R809
R801 Although I have a question on this one. Its a large regtangular cermic Resister.. clearly marked 1.2K Ohm on it, same as the manual. On all 3 I have, testing in and out of the board, The meter starts off near 1 or higher but very quickly discharges down to 0, within a second or two. I haven't seen another resister behave that way.

Problem? All 3 I have (2 parts chassis) behave the same. I swapped it anyways with a part chassis one.

R813 tested ok
R807 tested ok
R802 tested ok

Ran out of solder, will get more tonight. Did I miss anything in the 123V cicuit?

Also, the Transister, Q552 I am not sure how to test. I'm trying to just test the same legs with the same leads and compare to the parts chassis', but getting confusing readings.

Transister Q802 also is giving confusing readings. We swapped this one before too.

I tested just now with what I did. No neck glow or picture.

Thanks..

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Hey, make sure your meter has a good battery in it. My meter does that krap about 10 minuites before the batteries totally die.

I'm editing this one to update it.

Transistors..
Q552
Q802 Both tested odd in board, but tested ok out of board. THOUGHT I had found the problem! But apparently not, will either swap for a parts one or get new "just in case" ***But tested good since I looked up the proper way to test transistors.***

Did I miss anything in the 123V cicuit as I seem to be running out of things here to test?

Thanks..

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

** I also swapped out the HOT for a parts one..

And I swapped Q501 ..

Both tested bad or shorted on the board,, but ok out of the board. Do Transisters always test bad in board? Seems like all of mine do.

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Question... Is there a way to test caps in or out of the board.

I have tested/replaced EVERYTHING on the 123 V circuit, I believe according to the schematic. Except the caps. I can of course swap them for a parts one.

But would feel better if I knew how to test them.. and not end up replacing with a bad one from another board.

Gonna replace the B+ pot right now as well.

Hey, I see if I buy at least a 1,000 of them, the price drops $20 bucks!

Yeah.. maybe just as well to just buy a few of what I need if I can find them locally...

Just tried everything in this 123V circuit except the caps!

They physically LOOK ok,, no oddities noted.

Well .. not toooo much of one! I just worked 74 hours straight last week... and bunch of overtime already this week.. any my few days off i was moving sold games..

oh, I'm getting ready to get back in it!

If I survive.. see my next post..

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Ok.. did a bit more testing tonight..

Mod, got any other places to point me or something I skipped? No neck glow still.

Tonight I tested and all were good...

R455, 456, 454, 516, 753, 554 503, 502, 463, 401, and D553.

I tested the TPD 091 and it was 165V, same as the HOT.

Below is what I did last week to refresh memory:

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

Mod.. or anyone else..

Did we ever figure out exactly what was the B+ regulator on this chassis? Causing it to go into HV shutdown? So far, everything I test seems good... but I'm still working on it!
smile.gif

The HOT does give DCV reading same as the B+ voltage.. but no neck glow obviously...

Re: Did Cap Kit, Worked briefly, now FOCUS POT GLOWIN!

I think you should box everything up and send it down here and I'll send it back when it's fixed...
