Did another decent trade today...Ms. Pac-Man Cabaret

On Thursday I sold my upright Asteroids project to a fellow KLOVer who was more interested in the restore than I was. Today, I took the money from that, as well as my Samsung Blu Ray Player with a handfull of movies and traded it for a working Ms. Pac-Man cabaret. I thought that was a decent trade. When I got there, however, the guy gave me a box of extra stuff. He didn't know if anything worked, but he said he didn't want it so I could have it. The box contained another Ms. Pac-Man PCB, a complete monitor chassis, 2 power supplies, and a NOS Ms. Pac-Man upright CPO.

When I pulled up I could hear the game playing and I thought, "Man they turned that thing up loud!" The guy saw me from the front porched and told me the game was out on the other side of the front porch under the awning. I asked if it had been there long and he told me that he just put it out there when I got off the phone with his wife to make loading it easier. A weight was lifted and I was on cloud 9 again.

The cab is in much better condition than I thought it would be in. I think the guy must have used a crappy cell phone camera for the picture because the marquee and front control panel art isn't as bad in real life. It has the holes from a security bar in front and an add-on pad lock style lock added to the back door.

My wife is at her baby shower and has the camera so I will post my pix when she gets back. The attached picture is from the craigslist ad.

Awesome! I wish I could have traded a Blu-Ray player for mine!! It took me forever to find one, but it was worth the wait. It is such a killer cabinet. Congrats on the sweet trade!

The Mini Ms. Pac machines are awesome. I used to have one. Having an Mint UR is nicer due to screen size. If space is limited and the price was right I would be all over it. If it has a switcher you can sneak in an AS board beside the original with a jamma adaptor and map fire buttons to player 1 and 2 leaving original board in there. That way you can add all the pac variants and Galaga etc but leave machine original. I am not big on the pink t-moulding but it suits it.

The game works and plays fine, but I noticed a couple things about the game...

- Marquee and Coin Door lights were out so I bought replacement bulbs. Still no light. Should mean fuse is out. Looked inside to test fuses with DMM and the fuse holders had all been removed and rewired into each other with resistors or something. Blah! I'll fix that.

- Monitor has a convergence issue. I'll need to find someone to assist me with that. I still deal with involuntary tremors in my hands a bit so I try to stay away from the monitors and most soldering work.

- Needs the lid for the coin box. I put 2 quarters in and had to fish them out of the bottom of the cab later. Not a big deal, but I'm a NERD so that'll get replaced too.

- Has the speed up chip installed. I HATE THE FAST VERSION. The day I picked this game up was the first time I ever played the FAST version and I am not a fan. Luckily, there was a small tray of chips in the box 'o stuff I got and I believe the guy told me the slow chip is in there.

- PCB is the "hacked" version of Ms. Pac-Man that does not require the daughtercard. Not a big deal since the game is supposed to play the same. However, I will probably find a regular set to replace this one. My extra PCB in the box 'o stuff is also a "hacked" version.

That's what I saw so far...

If you were closer Dan I would totally do that for you. I am really good with setting convergence.

Thanks, you help me with a lot of stuff. It's a shame the distance is so great. It would be cool to work on some of these projects in real life instead of the waiting games we play with snail mail.

Busted out the Magic Eraser on the CPO. I love that thing. This is the middle of the road picture. Left side magically erased while right side is dirty...

I like the way it cleaned up. I'm gonna go work on the CPO on my original maze dot eater...Head-On!

Nice find! Was that the one in Denver? I remember seeing a couple. Looks good!

No. This one was in Loveland. It was one of the craigslist ads where the poster mis-spelled the title and didn't include much of a description. It just said "with speed up chip" and gave a phone number.

Today I decided to try and fire up the spare board to see if it works...it does. This one is a little different in that is says "Super Pac-Gal" instead of "Ms Pac-Man"

Both boards are hacked versions that make it so you don't need the daughtercard. Now I just gotta check into the box of chips to see if one of them will get me back to slow Ms Pac-Man.

PCB that was in the cab when I bought it...

Super Pac Gal is pretty cool too, doesn't it have different maze layouts?

CrazyKongFan had this cool JAMMA Ms Pac Board that had it on it:

It was late last night so I never played past the first screen. I'll have to look into that some more. I think it's the same as Ms Pac-Man. I've never been very good at most arcade games. With the speed chip I get at least double my normal score so I am getting to see all these mazes that I suck too much to get to normally. My wife says she has to tell herself that she is not actually getting better, she's cheating.

Nice score! I still need to find a Pac Man of ANY sort!

Thanks. I have been wanting to get a Ms Pac-Man for a long time. I haven't though because my wife likes it so much. Now before people make comments on my last statement I'll explain. Everything I have that is game related has a price tag on it. Since I can't work a regular job anymore I tend to generate extra income for the house by working on games/computers/electronics/whatever. Everything I buy that is game related comes from game funds so I don't ever touch "budget" money. By getting the Ms. Pac-Man I would be tying up my game money since I wouldn't be able to sell it (at least for a long time). I was even at the Post Office talking about why I can't buy a Ms Pac-Man just before I decided to get this one. The lady behind the counter said, "You're here all the time shipping out stuff, surely you can get your WIFE a game." I got home and made a few calls to find the best deal. There are a lot of Ms Pacs in the Colorado area available right now. Found the best one that tied up the least money and pulled the trigger. I was very happy when I got the box of spare parts because I should be able to get most of the money I spent on the cab back. Win/Win

--------

When I brought my Head-On! game home my daughter was in awe. However, since I brought home Ms. Pac-Man she could care less about Head-On! I like them both, but it is difficult to get a round of Ms. Pac-Man in when there are two girls battling over the machine already. I've gotten better at Head-On! by the way. LOL

I know how that is, I bought this Radikal Bikers for the monitor, and the kids love the game so much that now it is stuck in my arcade, gigantic cabinet and all.
