I think that in a situation like this (my opinion)

Before sending the board out (or at least before installing it after repair), we should-
-replace and suspect edge connector pins, or maybe just go ahead and replace the ground and power related ones
-do a thorough check of the power supply and possibly rebuild
-make damn sure that there's not a problem with the wiring/power, etc..

Amen......

If I was a repair person, I would video each board successfully running.

That way if something like this happened you could say "Look at this youtube video, that's your board working, showing that it coins up, starts up, sound is working, it's registering the pedals, steering and shifter, etc."

I would also make some mark on the board so they could see that the board in the video did indeed match the one they had in their hand.

Either way, this guy's coming off like a total douche, not supplying the requested info (timeline, etc), and Dick's got a stellar rep in the community. So put me in the "until there's indisputable proof that Dick dicked you over, I'm siding with Dick" camp.

Dick already is overloaded with repairs... I understand the logic, but it's unreasonable to say that for EACH board he needs to do that kind of stunt.

Yeah, I say all that as someone with no skills to do board repairs. But even if you don't want to do that with every repair, wouldn't it make sense to do it for the subset that come back a 2nd or 3rd time?

Even if the guy's not a jerk about it, just so you can say "Look, everything's working on my end, not sure what's up on your side. You best check your power supply, shifter wiring, etc."

I am extremely over loaded and I take pics of all repairs working, and it documents the repairs as well.

But video Dok, a narrated video on youtube displaying everything? In an ideal world, it works nicely, but it just seems insane to do that for every board. Snapping some digital pics takes seconds... producing a video, no matter how simple, would be a serious investment in time, and for what? To appease (only possibly) the rare Dbag like this guy who started this thread? I think it's pretty damn cool that you take the pics though... I guess it's a win-win, for you & the customer. Going above & beyond, in my book. :D

And even with video, just playing devil's advocate, some guy could argue that there's no way FOR SURE to know what is being shown is really his board... (I know, ridiculous, I agree) and unless you're there in person watching Dick (or whomever) test it and show it working, people can make excuses and accusations all day trying to dispute anything, there's no winning.

Reality Check 101

hey dokert, kiss my ass

Well, this ain't going to happen as your head is way too far up there to begin with.

Here is another reality check for you...

The standards 30+ years ago were pretty loose as far as board thickness goes. Why does this matter? Because you have a 30+ year old edge connector, that may have lost it's spring tension due to age and / or your working boardset being thicker than the boardsets you sent off for repair.

Next reality check...

IC Chip standards 30+ years ago varied widely, as most of the technology was new. Why does this matter? Because some of those IC chips may work at +4.75vdc and some may not. Some chips may need as much as +5.1vdc, just to turn on.

Next reality check...

You have not provided any power readings from your cabinet at all. I personally know that Dick Millikan's test rig puts out a perfect +5.0vdc, as I have seen it up close and personal. Why does this matter? PP and PP2 are power pigs and that is why they have two A/R II's from the factory.

Next reality check...

Shipping 30+ year old electronics through any service causes vibration. It is very common for some or all of the socketed chips to come loose in shipping. Why does this matter? At no point did you ever say that you reseated any or all of the socketed chips and or the edge connector.

Providing a clear and concise explanation of what happened and what was done by all parties to resolve the problem goes a lot farther than bashing a guy with an impeccable reputation. Name calling and loose accusations of wrong doing will get you no sympathy, but rather make you look like an @$$ Clown.

Video, hell no that is a waste of time. Pics only take a couple of seconds. I mainly take pics to let people know their stuff is done and working, and secondly to help me remember what I have repaired. I work on 50-100 games in a week, either directly or indirectly via tech support. It can get confusing at times and sometimes I have to ask WTF the person is talking about.

Mr. Millikan is the man. He has repaired 5 sets of PP/PP2 boards and a Millipede board for me. A couple times I had to send a PP2 board set back to him, no worries, that game is a PITA. And yea I had to pay shipping a couple extra times, but again, that game is PITA. And I am, as are many others, thankful that Dick offers to repair them! For a decent price to boot!

Sorry you feel you have been wronged. Pole Position is the absolute worst game for reliability; be thankful you have one that works.
