Looking to maybe start building one as a project, but considering how much money it looks like it will take to do it RIGHT, having trouble justifying the money versus possibly a 1500$ real machine or saving towards a LOTR or something like that...

Was hoping someone locally has one, or knows someone who does, that we could try out to see if it's a project me and my wife will enjoy once it's completed.

guy i talked to said his average cost is $2100 in a widebody cabinet.

I sourced a cab, but it's not widebody....seems to be the choice for most people, but at the price of FREE, I'm not going to complain. Picking it up Wed/Thursday morning.

I think 2100$ is way more than I'm willing to spend on it, and frankly, if it came down to that, I won't do it...it's not worth it to me at that price. I think I can do it around 1500$. I'm pretty good at sourcing deals on super-cheap high-end PC hardware, and I'm not going nutso restoring the cabinet shell with custom art, clearcoat, all this ludicrous crap just to hold a TV and two small monitors. :p

I would start with smaller LCD's and not worry about making a perfectly looking cab until you have the hardware running perfectly. I would probably invest a few bucks in some wood and make a mock up mini cab to sort out the layout and electronics.

got some extra LCD's sitting around to either use or test with. Should all be 19". Have a scad of video cards and PC parts too. I figure the actual layout shouldn't be too bad, aside from in the head...since you either have to have one big monitor or two small ones. Could get cramped in there with two.

Sounds like you have everything you need to make yourself a small virtual pin to work out all the kinks with. They have a small virtual pin at this year's HAAG Arcade Expo that was made using a Zizzle or something. It was pretty cool.

Yeah. Planning on using my gaming rig I have now to actually power the thing. I can get parts cheap from my brother as well....supposedly. He works at a teardown/refurb facility...supposedly he's getting me some 120GB SSD's for 30$ a piece!?

I'll believe that when they're in hand, but man...that's just nutso.

thats the guy that told me he builds the full size wide bodys for about $2100. it just all depends on where you can get the tv's from and how much. the computer he said he uses is a dual core and it works just fine. you just need the ram and the video cards.

If you can get SSD for $30 keep me in mind.
