Hello,
I have a technician working on a monitor of mine and he asked for the manufacturer. He said it wasn't clearly marked with a brand, but there was a serial number. He's looking for the schematics to repair the board. Any idea on how to determine the manufacturer? Thanks!

Probably easier to post a picture of the board so the experts here can ID it.

Then send your board to the experts of this forum.

Bad to say, but if your "technician" doesn't recognize it, then he either has very limited experience working on arcade monitors (not good), or you have a real oddball chassis that probably has limited repair resources...

you probably aren't aware of this bearcat but you just received responses from some of the most highly respected monitor experts on this forum..

I'd say you need to get your chassis out of this guys hands and into someone on here that knows what they are doing.

Monitor follow up

Hello all, thank you, yes, I was a little worried about the question when it came to me, but on the plus side, I'm only out a 40 buck diagnostic if he can't do anything with it. I don't have a pic of it and he's got the monitor, so I'll probably just retrieve it and look into another resource. As always, this forum is a great resource! Thanks guys....Jeff

What sort of "technician" are we talking about? If it's a TV technician, he should be more than capable of doing a quality repair. If it's someone who's never worked on a chassis before, forget about it.

$40?? Cripes, I'd FIX the whole monitor for that much.

And for $10 more, most of the techs here would do it too.

Get that monitor back ASAP, and tell the repair guy you don't want a diagnostic done. We'll get it repaired for you, CORRECTLY. Start a repair thread here first. You'd be surprised how much troubleshooting you can do on your own, with minimal experience.

$50 plus parts and return shipping is pretty common around here for some of the repair techs. I know Modessitt is not taking any repairs right now, but you have MANY other options: Chad at Arcadecrt.com, channelmanic, Buffet, Arcrevival, roothorick, and more.

I would not categorize myself as a 'repair tech' yet, but I have fixed about 2 dozen of my own monitors, and about a half dozen repairs done for close friends. Most of the work I do is bartered for other things; I don't like making friends pay for work that I'm not doing professionally. Plus most of the time, other people have things that they might not value as much, but I can use them.

My latest monitor repair was bartered for a broken Ms Pac board and some parts from Bob Roberts. For that I rebuilt a G07 for someone.

I don't feel like researching all the names on that list, but buffet and Chad are not $50.

But you should use buffet, because he is awesome.

Don't let price make your decision. Ask around. There are numerous threads about monitor repair here.

Check here for some leads.

You're mistaking me with the OP. I am only commenting that I think you're misguiding the OP on the price of a chassis repair. I do agree with you that the OP is getting ripped off for $40.

Depending on the model, I was charging $50 + parts + shipping when I was still accepting new work...

That's my going rate, also. $50 plus parts and return shipping.

Thanks for chiming in, Peale. I wasn't sure if you were still accepting work.

I know there was at least one other guy out there that was priced similarly, but I can't recall who it was.
