Desoldering tool recommendations

When someone damages a board or monitor chassis repairing it... nearly every time it relates to when a part was being desoldered. Spend the cash and buy the best tool. I finally got the Hakko for X-mas this year and regret not acquiring it 2-3 years ago.

I ordered a Aoyue 474A++ off Amazon, it'll be here today. It got some good reviews and a few of my friends have one, it seems like the top of the cheaper ones. If i find myself using it a lot and if I'm good with it I'll probably upgrade to a Hakko eventually

Not necessarily faster, but rather, as fast. Plus, both types of tools sometimes need to be unclogged, and it's a lot faster to unclog a Soldapullt than it is to unclog any type of desoldering gun.

Have you ever worked on an assembly line in a factory? Extreme levels of repetition and pressure to not hold up the line tend to make people do things faster than you might imagine they can be done.

The assembly line example is spot on. I was on a high output line soldering resistors onto posts of fuel probes and i can tell you some people are twice as fast as what you think is possible. Butcher lines cutting meat is even more amazing.
Thanks

Just did a 4900 chassis cap kit with my Hakko and took only 15 minutes. So clean and easy. Wish I would have gotten this long ago. If you are on the fence, its worth the purchase.

Fully agree. I was on the fence about purchasing a Hakko a while back, but finally went with the purchase and have never looked back. It made recapping chassis so much easier, modding my NES, etc. etc.

I honestly don't know right now how I ever got anything done without it.

Best deal/place to buy at this moment?

Dunno where folks are getting them. I have two of the older 808's, which were discontinued.
But people are getting the FR-300's now.

There was one dealer who seemed to be one of the bigger retailers, but I forget who they were. I think they used to have coupons.

Your best bet is probably google shopping for the cheapest price.

FWIW, the FR-300s are slightly discounted on Amazon right now I think, at about $260-270, presumably due to the FR-301 coming out.

The Hakko FR-301's are now available. I just ordered one from Tequipment.net. If you order, make sure it is a 120V version if you are in the US.

I love my Hakko 808. I have taken on some massive chips - the Hakko wins, the chips come out.

Impressive - I just did a cap kit on a Xenon Sound Board, it took more time to pull the tool out than complete the cap kit.

This thing is FAST. After using the various RS products for years, I'm a firm believer in Hakko.

You should just be a firm believer in anything that isn't RS trash.
