Maybe a dumb question, but if I have 3 rooms in my basement, is it OK to run a dehumidifier in a different room? Say in my furnace room? Will the other rooms in the basement get the benefit?

Yes and no. Humidity moves through walls, but very slowly. If your "other" rooms are slightly humid, it may work. If they have a real moisture problem, you will need multiple units or forced airflow between rooms.
