Degaussing trouble

I've got 2 monitors that have corners that need degaussing. On one of them, the discoloration disappears when I orient the arcade East and West, but the other has discoloration regardless of orientation.

I have tried for years to fix monitors with a degaussing coil, but I can't ever get them fixed.

I have the exact same coil as seen in this video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xboO2JUvtBM&feature=player_embedded

and I follow the videos directions to a "T", along with other directions on the internet, and of course the coil does have an obvious effect on the screen, but it never fixes the issue.

I'll even do the circles so slowly that my hand will start to "burn" from the coil by the time I'm backed away far enough from the monitor.

Here's exactly what I do: I start with small circles close to and in the center of the monitor, and I SLOWLY make circles bigger and bigger as I back away from the monitor.

I've done this over and over again to the same monitor (tried 5 times in a row over about 10 minutes), but still have discolored corners.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Because I'm obviously doing something wrong if the directions for the procedure is working for EVERYONE else!

Thanks.

Do a cap kit on your monitor.

I've done one on the monitor that has discoloration regardless of orientation (in my Jr. Pac), and after the cap kit is when I first noticed the issue.

The other one (in my Star wars Trilogy Upright), has beautiful colors already, no other problems, and the issue fixes when I orient the machine East/West.

I don't think the caps are an issue, but thanks for the suggestion.

it is/could be one of the following things.

1 it is to close to a speaker.
2 it is to close to a water pipe in the wall or column.
3 it is to close to a heavy power wire in the wall or column.
4 the earth's magnetic pull is really strong where he is.
5 the frame could be partially magnetic somehow.
6 another game next to it is causing a problem.
7 some sort of lamp/appliance is interfering with it.
8 when his house was built a piece of metal in the foundation/ground left by the contractor is reacting with the earths magnetic pull.
9 re-bar in the concrete in his foundation is near a water pipe and causing a magnetic disturbance.

those are some of the things i could think of.

Damn! Now that's a list of potentials alright! :)

Well, I can definitely cross some of those off the list.

The funny thing is, both monitors are next to 2 other arcades that don't have any issues, and all 4 are in front of a window (with blinds of course so they don't fade). :)

So, that would seem to eliminate the things pointed at walls and foundations.

But, great list! :)

It really all seems to point to the good old ID-10-T error! (ID-10-T=IDIOT) :)! I must be doing something wrong.

Could my coil not be strong enough somehow to affect the monitor permanently?

Anyone know if it's possible for monitors to get to the point where degaussing doesn't work anymore?

Thanks.

In my opinion, moving the wand around in circles is absolutely useless. Hold the wand near the screen and flick the button on it as quickly as you possibly can in a few different areas until it looks right.

A while back I had a monitor I could simply NOT degauss. Jomac told me to do this and it worked straight away.

Thanks man!!! That totally worked!!!

I did have to mess with it a little bit, and its still not perfect, but its about 99%, and looks way better!

Funny how I've never come across that suggestion before in all of the reading of degaussing I have done, and the videos I've watched. Maybe I missed it somewhere. Makes sense though since the built in ones only "flash" on start up like pressing the power button on and off.

Thanks again!!!

You haven't come across this suggestion 'cause it isn't 'technically correct' - however, when all else fails, do what you have to do to make it work....
