I have a Taito style cabinet that I'm using for a multi cab, and the monitor is tilted back (as it should be). This is my first attempt at degaussing, and I know the method is to do the circular motion parallel to the monitor. How do you do that with monitors that are tilted back like that? Stand on a chair? With my Taito cab, I can't even get close enough to the top corners of the monitor with the degaussing tool because the speaker area is in the way.

I start with my degausser right in the center of the monitor almost touching the tube. I then start making small circles, getting slightly bigger as I move away, until I'm about 3-4 ft away making circles at arm-length. As I'm making little circles when up close, I don't often hit the cab, and by the time I'm making bigger circles, I'm farther away. It helps that I'm over 6ft, so if your short, you may want to put a step stool a few feet away so you can make bigger circles if the monitor is pointing upwards too much....

It's not an exact science - it doesn't have to be "exactly" parallel. Just make the circles like Modesitt said and see how that clears things up. Couple applications and you should be 5x5.
