2N3716 NPN 10Amps / 150W /4Mhz
2N3792 PNP 10 Amps / 150W /4Mhz
Are these getting harder to get? Where do you guys get them from?

I am having trouble getting these for a good price

I figure if I am going to pay $4.00 per one I may as well get one heavier duty for that price

I found these
MJ21194 NPN 16 Amps / 250W /4Mhz
MJ21193 PNP 16 Amps / 250W /4Mhz

Ignore the site and price

It just gives the specs in the same format

I am going to order some of them and see if they hold well in a game

PS (I am over bob roberts, after I got hit with more than $100 in fees last time)

Thanks Mod

I have concerns with counterfeit parts being on the market, after I had a few new transistors blow up recently.

It's pretty hard to buy these from:
A. a reputable dealer
B. at a better price than $4.00 ea

I guess that's how it has to be

Mouser is a VERY reputable dealer and I've spent a lot of money with them over the years with ZERO problems.

I was hoping you were going to try these to see how they worked and then let us know... or maybe somebody else has done this.
I can get new factory stock on the MJ21193G's and MJ21194G's and would prefer to carry items such as these rather than unknown old 2N3792's and 2N3716's.
Yeah, I know Mouser carries Central Semi (good) parts... but I can get the On-Semi's cheaper.

I have ordered the MJs and have a Deflection board ready to go

I will post up the results

Zanen electronics sells them for about $1.25 each last time I checked. It has been a while so don't quote me on that. Just google for their phone number and give them a call and ask for quantity discount pricing or something like that.

Thanks Pat, have you got a link?
I am pretty sure the MJs will work fine, and they are avail in AU a bit cheaper for QTYs

I was thinking about the guys in the US actually (IE Buying direct from the US suppliers), if buying the repro bare deflection boards in a few months time, so if the originals Transistors are readily available in the US, I can leave the design of the PCB as is, and not radically change it to TO-220 cases for example

If the MJs above work, that's even better as they are TO-3's, heavier duty & are a backup if the 2N3716's and 92's get any scarcer.

Hope that all makes sense

Note: there were transistors I tried (TO-220 case) which smoked upon power up, and I wasn't sure if they were counterfeits or unsuitable. Now I prefer leaving the design as TO-3's

So I won't be buying from that supplier again (Little known co in AU, don't worry)

Nope, they don't have a web site. Just have to call them.
Aubrey is they guy's name.

Well, the good news is we have a world wide alternative to the 2N3716 and 2N3792's

I just fitted these into my best deflection board:
MJ21193G PNP
MJ21194G NPN

And played a few games and they were great, no problems, and today we are suffering through a 42C day (108F)

I pointed an oscillating fan towards me to try and cool down, but it was so hot I gave up after 3 games. Besides I am not much good at star wars

So there we go :)

a happy ending
