My defender sticks in the down direction. Continues to go down when the joystick is not in contact with the leafs. Hoping someone has ran into this. I don't want to damage the leafs so thought I might ask before I start bending to try and get it to work. I would think the stick not touching the leafs would mean the ship should move up or down

Ok I'll try that but the board was just working in another cabinet and was just swapped over. So I am guessing it's joystick/ leaf issues

still working this issue but have another. my reverse button will not work. i put in test mode and all buttons work except that, it gives a switch error. i have read that the door switch can cause issues. could this be related?

I am out of my Depth with this sorry. I have not repaired a Williams game in Years. But it sounds like your about to dive into the Schematics and start tracing wires. I do not envy you.

Try cleaning the connections on the I/O board. Also move the ribbon cable on the I/o board around and see if anything changes. I've had the issue on a Defender and it was connection related.

My joystick is missing the long spacer type things as shown in this pic . Would this have caused it the issue?

Got joystick fixed. Reverse still won't work.I swapped the cp with my other and it works fine.I was messing around inside the cabinet wiggling the connectors and got shocked when touching the metal plate the pcb is on. Got a ground issue I believe. Could think be the issue with the reverse not working? I am gonna try and trace out the ground to see where it might be. Ideas?
