I have Defender cab I'm restoring from a Relief Pitcher conversion into a multi-Williams project (using a programmable JAMMA board {thanks to Nixs} - would be interested in the JROK pcb EVERYBODY seems to want - BTW what's the magic with the JROK board all about? Why do I want one? What's so awesome about them? What games do they have? Separate thread?). Plan is to keep the cab original Defender. The original sideart is there - haven't stripped yet, so I'm not sure of the condition, but I can make it out under the paint and conversion side art. If it's not in good shape, planning to restore with NOS/repro defender side/front panel art and using MW marquee and CPO (Arcadeshop or ThisOldGame). Interested in the sage advice of the KLOV community here.

Definitely gonna post before/during/after pics! I'm stoked about this. Always been a HUGE Joust fan (would love to have a nice dedicated Joust) and LOVE Moon Patrol. Getting back into Robotron since I got this pcb. I always sucked at Defender/Stargate, but I liked the games - just never pumped enough quarters BITD to get good, but it's FREE now!

I'm just about done with mine.

Williams multi

Gator, that turned out sweet!!!

I am doing a Williams in a Defender cab, I have everthing ready to go. I am going to paint the sides and install the multi art I got from Wiz. I will keep the front art though. I am going with a 22in lcd for a monitor and will have to figure something for a bezel.

I am so not worthy - that Defender restore turned out completely bad@$$. I can only hope mine looks close to that good. Your thread is very helpful - my cab has similar damage to yours and will require almost identical repairs. I'm thinking salvaging the artwork may be a lost cause. Where do the stencils come from? Should a noob such as me even consider that or should I go with repro side art? I'm quite handy, but not sure I have the patience for all that. If sideart, where to source? Who is this "Wiz" of whom you speak, smisch? What about the stainless coin door - where'd tht come from? I totally have Defender envy at this point. Seriously though - someone please give me the low-down on the jrok pcb. What is bob roberts website?

Phet, that Joust is pretty sweet, too - LOVES me some Joust! Is it dedicated or is it a MW? If MW, which pcb? (side note: must be a typical annoying noob, because as I re-read my posts, they read like 20 questions - sorry about that if it's annoying, but I feel like an enthusiastic member of a new arcade cult).

MW, Jrok Board. Phoenix bezel. Restenciled Joust cab with stencils picked up from gamestencils.com. It's taken me 3 years to get this far.

First of all thanks for the kind words
Remember you are always your own worst critic

Let me sort thru all these questions

Stencils are available at
http://www.gamestencils.com/index.php?crn=207&rn=397&action=show_detail

If I can do it so can you, I not an artist by any means

Stainless Steel coin doors were factory stock original on early run Defenders
I swapped / traded some parts with another member here on the boards and restored it and slapped it in. (personal preference that I liked the SS door over black)

Jrok is a member on these boards and ran a multiwilliams pcb a short time ago, (it rocks) best to email him any questions directly

Bob Roberts is a retired repair guy that still sells parts supports this crazy hobby and is one of the nicest guys.

He does business the old fashioned way, personal checks or Money Orders
All orders are by email or telephone
His website is loaded full of helpful tips, tricks, and advice and pictures

Thanks for the replies! All good info. Planning to post "before" pics - hopefully yet this weekend...

Here are the before pics...

At least the cab isnt falling apart:) Hows the bottom of the cab?
Thats where you usually find most of the damage. Probably need a
new wiring harness. Looks all sorts of hacked up.

Bottom of the cab is in bad shape - needs a good cleaning with bleach and almost identical repairs as Gator's. Other than crappy conversion/finish, the cabinet is solid. Gator's thread is my inspiration - think I'm gonna sand everything down (upon closer inspection, the side with the RP sideart has some pretty deep gouges in it), repair/bondo/sand/prime/paint, *attempt* the stencil thing and see how it goes. May use the bob roberts stuff, but for now may just use another jamma harness I have. Need a low/no-burn 19" monitor for this puppy as the crusty one in there appears to have bad burn from what looks like Monaco GP. The project may be delayed a bit as I have a few other (non-arcade) to complete first. That will give me some time to waffle on which MW CPO to use...
