Defender - complete but not working - Northern California $150

Ok I have been working on this for a while and now I just need cash so I'm going to unload it. I posted it on CL and got swamped with people wanting it so I killed that ad and decided I should offer it here first since so many folks on here have helped me out on it and other projects.

There's a thread on here about what I did so far.

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=185349

The cabinet is nice but the artwork has been painted over. No water damage though. Power supply has been rebuilt. When you start it you get nothing. I know the rom board has a bad rom on it because when I swap good roms into it, it works on my other Defender cab. But something is also wrong with the main board. Sound board is fine.

The only thing is that I need cash pretty quickly if you want it. Paypal and I can hold it for you. Otherwise it will go to one of the Craigslisters. Thanks. Zip code is 94553 if you want to mapquest it.

Oh, and it's not the original monitor. It has Missile Command screen burn on it but it doesn't show up much at all when playing (I know because I had my other board set in there)

Good luck on the sale John! It is kinda rough selling right now. So far the highest offer I have for my working Defender is $220. I just payed $300 for it a month ago, so apparently I missed a memo somewhere. :) So far the only games I have been able to sell are for a lot less than I wanted to sell them for and I had to throw in free delivery (from Reno to Sac).

I actually had one person tell me he could only buy a game for half my selling price, or he would not be able to make any money on it when he puts it up for sale. lol

Yeah I hear you! It's bad in California too. I paid $150 for this and have rebuilt the power supply and done some other work to it. For another $60 or so I can have the board fixed but I just wanted some quick cash to buy another game.

I'm not in as big of a hurry now but I'll leave the CL ad up for the time being while I decide what to do. If it sells then great. Otherwise I'll fix it and sell it and probably lose even more money! :)

Actually I've had considerable interest already from CL so I think it will probably sell. Except that I jinxed it by saying that.

Yeah, I think I am about finished buying games that need work. I am coming to the conclusion that my time is worth more than the money I save trying to fix them up. I am even looking for a new DK so I don't have to do the cabinet work on mine. :)

I didn't mind it too much a couple of years ago when I could sell them for what I paid for them at least, but it has been quite a while since that has happened. Since I don't want to do cosmetic work on them, or sell them, I think it is time to just buy really nice examples of the games I really want to keep. Then hopefully I won't have to try to sell any of those off to buy other ones I really want to keep. lol

Once yours is sold, please let me know. I think I will post mine on the Sac CL since I will be down that way for CAX.

I don't mean to threadjack, but are either of you guys by chance heading to Arizona any time? Defender is on my want list, and I'd much rather buy from someone here on the board than via the local CL...

I just saw your CL ad and came on here to give you rep points for it but I have to spread the love to others first. I can always tell your ads and I love them, good luck with the sale.

Lol you gave it a whole 4 hours.

Well I'll give priority to anyone from here of course. At the time I thought I might be needing quick cash for a pinball. But it turned out I didn't so I'm in no hurry now. I may go ahead and work on it some more.

I don't have any current plans to travel that way any time soon. Sorry...you could come get it at CAX though. :) Um, if I go.

Unfortunately it would cost me a bloody fortune in gas to bring the truck all the way up to CAX. But if I get a crazy notion to do it I'll certainly be in touch.

Hey, it looks like you got your Defender working??!!

I see one in Martinez for $500 - (must be you?)

So, in the end, what was wrong with it??

-Muel

This is mine...but it's a different one. :) This one actually did sell though....but I sold it unworking.

Cool!

So are you freeing up space for a new game or just freeing up funds?

You might find a good catch at CAX?

It seems like you're getting new games every day tho... :)

Both....yeah, I went on kind of a buying spree there for a bit. Not sure what got into me. But I'd like to spend some time working on the two pins I have now since I've never really worked on them much and they seem like fun projects.

It all started because my wife and I made a deal that I can buy as many games as I want as long as I only use money from games that I sell. And it kinda domino'd out of control.

It started with the $50 Tapper and I leveraged that to get all this other stuff. It's been a lot of work actually. heh.

I remember finding that Tapper on CL and posting it to the forums. I also remember you saying how you stalked the Garage Sale to get it! Awesome! That was the Ice Cold Beer Tapper if I remember correcty..

Well I didn't exactly stalk the guy. I just saw the ad and grabbed my kids and hopped in the truck and headed over. Then when I got there I found out the sale wasn't until the next day. I guess sometimes it pays to NOT read the entire ad....
