There is a cheap one with nice artwork and coin door for sale near me. Would it look dumb if a guy were to turn this into a 60-in-1 while he collects all of the original parts to return it to it's former Defender glory?

it would look better as a multi williams but since you're going to make it back to a defender eventually, do whatever in the mean time.

why blow money on bits jamma'ng it up.spend money getting them parts and get it back up and running as a defender.
:)

Well, I'm sure you know this already but 60-in-1's are vertical and I think it would be a pain in the ass to rotate a monitor in a Defender cab, if it's even possible.

Monitor rotation would be a pain in that cabinet. Not sure if it could even be done. I've only seen them converted to other horizontal games. I would want to go back to Defender or maybe Multi Williams. Since the most popular way to do that is with a JAMMA board, it would be alright to mulitsomethingelse it in the meantime if you were able to do it. Personally, if I wanted to Multi Williams, I would want one of Clay Cowgil's kits for actual Williams hardware. However, you have to find one and have the correct hardware version for it to work. Defender cosmetics should be easy to find but be prepared to plop down $150 or $200 for a complete working PCB set. Probably going to have to find or build a wiring harness as well. Could turn out to be a bit of a money pit but it would be nice to save the cabinet from the trash.

I agree 100% with everything you said. I really want to save it, but it would be right up there with the WoW cab I passed up because it would be too much of a scavenger hunt...

It would be a serious pain to try to mount a vertical monitor in a Defender cab. It would be easier to just get a cheap horizontal Jamma board for now.

Defender board sets can be had, but as said they will be around $150 - $200 for a working set. There is somebody in the for sale section that is selling a Defender harness but at the price he is asking, I'd hit Dockert up for one.

I have one I have been working on "in my spare time". The next big thing will be reproducing the control panel. I have a repro CPO and I just need to get a thin Lexan sheet to mount on top and drill and mount the buttons and the joystick.

I have all the rest of the parts, boardset, bezel, marquee, power brick, power supply board, metal plates and a nice monitor. I just need some time...:(

that does sound dumb

to turn
something from
something into
something for a little while
then turn it back to
something that it already was

sounds like a heck of a lot of work but do what you want. at the very least, you'll learn
something !
