Hey guys , I have a Defender that instantly blows the main fuse when its turned on . I've narrowed it down to this connector here , that comes off the Iso transformer , when its unplugged the fuse doesn't blow . The wires to the marquee bulb were chewed to bits by a mouse so I cut those and haven't connected them back up so thats disconnected . I've also uplugged the monitor but the fuse still blows . Any ideas what could be blowing the fuse ? Looks like the remaining things are the coin door stuff and the main power main switches .

Check the wiring diagram. The plug that goes into that connector loops the voltage back from the fuse to the power switch and the interlock switch on the back door. If it is plugged there is no power flowing anywhere.

Take a meter and check the power switch and interlock to make sure there isn't a short through that path.

Or do it the easy way and buy a new AC harness from Dokert.

Edit: There look to be some extraneous wires in there and a couple with electrical tape on them. I would pull the wiring diagram and find out where those go. It is probably a hack to wire in a switcher and those are notorious for going bad.

Hey thanks Yellowdog .

So the interlock switch was replaced with this . The electrical tape is from me installing a new power cord , the mice chewed on the old one , I couldn't get the original power cord wires desoldered and off the line filter so I cut the old wire and soldered the new power cord to it . I also disconnected the plug that is in the bottom off the cab since nothing is connected to it . So since it runs in a loop the short could be anywhere .

Joey, The AC harness with switcher mod runs $17.50 shipped.

Cool , I'll send you a money order this week !

What do you think could be going on ? Tough to say since its been hacked and not original ? I think it has to do with that switch that replaced the interlock switch cause I'll have the monitor and switcher unhooked and it still blows the fuse . But the mice did do a number on the power cord and the wires to the marquee bulb so maybe they chewed something else I haven't found , I gotta post pics cause they shredded the wires , never seen it so bad . Damn Mickey Mouse bastard !!

add another $11 and I will set you up with a new interlock switch and on/off switch.

This switch is wired all wrong.

Couldn't I just remove the switch ? Can you tell from the pic which wires go together ? Seems like an easy fix .

Or should I just say screw it and get the Dokert Super Duper Deluxe Special Defender AC Wire Harness , and call it a day ? Which comes with tech support right ? Hint Hint.....

Damn Joey, how much tech support is needed for plug it in and mount the switches, turn it on?

I can tell from the pic which wires go together, but can you?

Hahaha !! bastard !! You need to reveal this top secret info on which wires go together so I can fire this baby up and watch something else explode and go wrong with it ........

Ok the white wire needs to go on the opposite side next to the blue wire ?

White with red stripe ties to the blue wire. Black with yellow stripe ties together with black with yellow stripe. Violet with yellow stripe goes to the monitor as does the other violet with yellow stripe.

Switch

1. Blue wire and 1 violet with yellow stripe wire 2. 1 black wire with yellow stripe and 1 violet wire with yellow stripe.

3. White wire with red stripe 4. Black wire with yellow stripe.
5. NC 6. NC

Thanks dude !! I'll mess with it tomorrow and see if it still blows the fuse and if I still have problems I'll be getting that harness from you .

the earthing braid connections (the "flat shoelace" wire) to the body of the line filter also look to be in poor condition - worth cleaning em up and redo connection to ensure a reliable connection to earth.

and shouldn't the switcher earth also be connected to the mains earth ? otherwise you may be earthing via the pcbs
-ve connections ...

I have another game thats wired without the switcher connected to the main earth and wondered if I should hook that up .

Dokert you rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the switch out and connected the wires and Defender lives !!!!!!

Next problem I'm having is this message on boot up ,

"Initial Tests indicate Ram Error "

Gotta research and figure out what this means........

+5 voltage at the switcher is 5.0

The test screen cycles and will reboot after it says , "Initial Tests indicate Ram Error " ,
