Here's the dilemma I'm faced with. I only have space in my gameroom area for ONE more game only. Also my current budget allows me only one more purchase (for the time being). My collection currently consists of 9 arcade games and 2 EM pinballs (listed in my signature). I honestly enjoy my pinball machines a bit more than the arcade games, although they are a bit more difficult to move around and take up more space. Guests usually gravitate more for the pinball games as well.

First of all I have a local friend/operator who has a Taxi pinball currently in storage. (Marilyn version) It looks to be in decent shape, but will need a good cleaning. I'm going to see it this Saturday. He says it worked last time he used it, but who knows? I've read a lot about it on the Pinball Database and I know that it's a fairly highly rated game. It'd be my first SS pinball. I think I could get it at a fairly decent price.

Secondly I've been contacted about purchasing a Joust cocktail game. Joust is a favorite game of mine and I know that the cocktail version is somewhat on the rare side. The downside is that it's a 9 hour drive roundtrip to pick this game up.

Thirdly there is a somewhat grail EM pinball, Captain Fantastic, that's recently come to my attention. It sounds like it might need some attention, as half the game lights up and the other half doesn't. (Fuse problem perhaps) It's also around a 9 hour drive roundtrip to pick it up.

Lastly there is a very highly rated EM pinball, Jumpin' jack, which is only a 4 hour roundtrip for me. It looks to be in good shape for a 1971 machine, but I already have 2 EM pinballs and, while they have a certain charm, I was really hoping for a newer SS game with a few more bells and whistles.

Which one would you choose if you were in my position?

If you only have room for one more game, are you sure you have room for a cocktail? Have to factor in the two seating areas in addition to the machine itself. (Although maybe not much of an issue, with the seating in front, as it is.)

Taxi pin, but I am biased :)
+1 for Taxi. I enjoy Joust but it loses replay value for me after awhile. Maybe different if you have friends over often, 2 player is much more fun. The older pinballs blow for replay value in my mind, so they do not get much love from me.

Having spent some time on an older pinball, the old bonus multiplier driven machines have far more replay value than newer machines. I find myself being drawn into the 'flasy' gimmick though, and wonder how long it will be before I go back to the older SS titles.

The general consensus seems to be to go for the Taxi pinball. Honestly, that's my definate first choice. It all depends on what shape the game is in and how much he expects for it. He stated before that it's the "rare" Marilyn version, so he may have higher expectations than it's really worth. I'll post pictures of it when after I see it on Saturday. Assuming it'll need to be cleaned thoroughly and rubbers replaced, etc, any ideas as to a fair offer?

Forget about your guests. What do you want?

Taxi - Personally, I thought it was boring.

Joust cocktail game - Interesting in its uniqueness, but takes up more space than usual. I haven't played it, so I don't know...

A somewhat grail EM pinball, Captain Fantastic - Doesn't that say it all? If it's a grail, then that's the one for you.

Jumpin' jack - I haven't played it, so I don't know...

Get the storage shed. :p

I'd love his storage shed. 25 or so games, many not working or in pretty rough shape. 3 or 4 pinball games and a few classic cars, including a 1971 Hemi Cuda in mint condition. I'd love to drive that baby.

i'd say get the taxi. if you like joust, why not turn your 2084 into a multi williams? more games and no additional space. then you'd get two out of those in that list.
