So have an option to buy an Atari Kangaroo game (jail bars and no sound) and a CapCom 1943 machine with a cut cord so blind faith. Both in original cabinets with all original artwork and CPOs. Set aside costs, I want to see what people think about these games, I played both as a kid but were not that popular.

I just don't know how much play I would get in my gameroom and also possible resale concerns. Let me know your opinions about the games, might help me make a decisions. They both need a lot of work but I am finishing up a Zaxxon machine (t-molding left) and a Defender cocktail table by next week and these might be good projects as winter is coming.

if space is an issue, I would pass on both even if super cheap. I see quite a few games of similar popularity and vintage sit on CL for a long time even at a couple hundred a cabinet.

Just my 2 cents

I have a 1943 in a dyno cab though the game got old quick it's in a Jamma cab and I run my ArcadeSD in it as it has the dual joystick set up.

There isn't an original dedicated cabinet for 1943, it was a kit-only game.

Other opinions don't matter, only yours does. If you're already worried about resale value (Zaxxon is a tough one to unload if you ever change your mind on that one) and won't play them, leave them be and wait for something that genuinely interests you.

Zaxxon is going into my own collection, one of my favorite games as a kid, and the Defender cocktail game will go into my other game room I have upstairs. So those 2 will get out of my workshop soon so I have space.

Just looking for others opinion on the games themselves, more of an opinion poll if you like Kangaroo or 1943.

As for 1943, this is a true original dedicated Dynamo cabinet it was not a kit which is what interested me.

If you look up the game 1943 on here is was only sold as a kit is what he was trying to tell you. It was never sold as a complete cab.

Kangaroo gets no love but it is actually a pretty challenging game . You'll never make money on it but I'm one of the oddballs that likes it and thinks it's fun . Only buy it if you like it as well .

1943 was definitely a kit, but it is a nice looking kit. Personally I always found the game fun, and you can burn roms for 1943 Kai if you want a little variety. You can find pcbs pretty cheap ($50) if the pcb isn't working. The pinout is Jamma so you could also use the cab as a vertical 2 button Jamma cab. Being a Jamma kit in a Dynamo cab, not worth much from a collector stand point, so really all about how you like the game and the artwork.

we needs pics.

i'm guessing the 1943 is probably a pac or ms pac conversion?

i love 1942/3 personally but since the cab would jamma you could any pcb in there [jamma of course].

Hard choice. Kangaroo sucks (at least to me) and I am not a big fan of 1943 either. At least Kangaroo is a dedicated Atari game. That is something. Uhhhhh. I really don't know.

Its one of those games it's so bad that it's good..Great sounds but man it gets so hard fast...!

I would get the Dynamo if it's cheap cause it's a great jamma cab. You can even rotate the monitor easily with a little work.

But yeah, even if the op used a brand new Dynamo cab, they still installed 1943 themselves.

As for Kangaroo, I would skip it. Maybe if I had room only because it's Atari...Kinda liked it but it really wasn't that fun and the screen reminded me of playing my Atari 2600...I always hated that.

I am not a MAME or multicade kind of guy, I actually hate both. I always think it is a shame to take an original cabinet and MAME or multicade it, mostly first the games do not play the same way, second if you have an issue now you are out all your games, third my business is around restoration and not just video games but also jukeboxes, slot machines, pinball, etc... I have jukeboxes that I have waited for years (7 years) until I found an original part, same way with Zaxxon I finally found original coin buckets because I would not make my own. The only thing I modify on my machines are the locks and only at last resort and of course board rebuilds (caps, diodes, trans, etc...).

As for 1943, CapCom did make true dedicated cabinet versions of this game, yes majority of the games out there are kit games but there are a few Dynamo cabinets that came direct from CapCom with 1943 in it.

I have played both games, 1943 is fun because of the 2 player interaction and kangaroo is entertaining and not an easy game once you get past the 3rd screen. Yes, neither on the level of popularity of Centipede, Pac-man, etc...

I might have to get both, try to get him down on price for both and restore them so no one else strips them for a MAME or multicade :)

If you can pick them up for $100 each then go for it. You won't make a killing on a flip, but you won't lose money either - even if they end up as part outs for some reason.

Saving a couple cabs is always a good idea. Good Luck

I like SHMUPs, so getting the dynamo cab w/ 1943 would be great to swap in other JAMMA boards. I use Aerofighters and Macross Plus in my Dynamo 1.
