Decisions , decisions. Which Asteroids high score save kit do I get?

I am definitely going to be getting one from Highscoresaves.com for my ASTEROIDS but which one should I get? The Braze is $39.99 and does the basics. But the one for $54.99 has a couple extra features one being attract mode. Arrrrrg!! decisions , decisions. HAHA!! What do you guys think? Which one are you using for your ASTEROIDS? Thanks fellas.

Do you know what the attract mode is, exactly? I have the original Braze kit and it has what I'd consider to be an attract mode, the original Atari verson cycling between the high score screen and some automated gameplay.

Edit: I think I might see what it does, doesn't sit at a static screen when in freeplay mode. I have a credit button on my machine, and it goes to a static screen when coined up if I remember correctly.

The Jochen kit is only worth it if you get the online capability, IMO. The non-online one is basically a neutered version of the online one (same kit, just without the online module).

Both of the Jochen kits add his neat spinning ship attract screen, and a configuration menu. But if you don't want online capability, the Braze kit is cheaper, and more true to the original.

I have the braze but your thread made me take a quick look.

mine is set to free play and there are some static images (logo, score, press start flashes) and constant cycle of highscore table does cause burn.

after quickly looking at jochen, I would go that route as it allows you to switch wiring to play asteroids in AD cabinet as well. pretty neat feature.

I'm looking at these also! Would love to have one on my Asteroids before the next pool party but want to make sure that I won't have problems with either kit as well.

I'd get the multi with Asteroids, AD, and Lunar Lander... oh, right. ;)

I couldn't find any mention of the difference in attract mode between the two and am intrigued by the internet HSS kit. Would be nice if Jochen's kits could just use usb or had wireless built in.

Hi everyone!

There are a few crossover kits from the Braze line and our Jochen line. When you get to other "crossovers", there are different features too. DK for example has practice levels. There are also a lot of unique kits in stock and future projects coming to fruitation in the Jochen line...

Biggest feature on Asteroids is the selectable wiring. Plus, the Asteroids was one of the first kits designed. And, I love the attract screen.

The attract sequence on the Jochen is different. The online modual is a great feature to compete world wide on high scores...
Reasons for ethernet is that it is an effective way to connect to the Internet. DHCP needs to be turned on for your router (I use a PoE to run ether net to the arcare) and have multiple kits installed, obviously. ;) Real cool stuff.

IMO you cannot make a wrong decision here. :)

FYI. I personally run both Jochen and Braze in my Asteroids upright. Sometimes I want to play Asteroids Deluxe on Braze Multigame, other times I want to upload scores to the Internet.

For the base kits of each, both are equally great products in their own rite!

Hope that helps a bit

...anyone have a video of this cool attract screen? I'm interested in seeing it.

Also, if the kits ever went wireless I'd be all over them. It's just not practical for me to run Cat-5 all over the garagecade...

The new attract screen with the spinning 3D ship is just a precursor to the configuration screen. Once you're in game mode, the attract is just the same as regular Asteroids attract mode.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the rewiring option for playing an Asteroids PCB in an AD cab has limitations. It does remap the controls, but if you put an Asteroids board in an AD cab, the image will still be flipped, due to the mirror, and the kit cannot reverse that, as it's hardwired in the hardware. However because the image is flipped and reversed, your ship moves intuitively (i.e., if you go up, the ship goes up on the screen), but the text is all backwards, because the screen is upside down and reversed. Note this is only the case for the upright AD cab, and not the cabaret, as the cabaret has no mirror.

In order to truly use an Asteroids board in an upright AD cab, you need to do the hardware mods documented here:

Jochen's kit for Online HSS, though I'm still waiting for my Online version to get reshipped after it broke.

Also have Andrewb's extra shot mod in mine, it's kinda fun to play with.

Sadly, I'm having a display issue in mine at the moment that I need to address. :004_ssad:
